John Mayer coming for show?

Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - After the recent Musicfest 2010 featuring Kris Allen, Jabbawockeez and Boyce Avenue, is it true that Channel [V] Philippines and Fearless Productions (headed by Jomari Yllana and Singson brothers Ronald and Ryan) are bringing in multi-award winner John Mayer for a concert?

If true, but with no definite date yet, expect Mayer fans from our neighbor Asian cities to come in drove to experience a night of world-class music.

“Maraming babaing mababaliw if ever,” promised Jomari who neither denied nor confirmed if Mayer is indeed coming.

Once Jennifer Aniston’s boyfriend, Mayer was born on Oct. 16, 1977 and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. According to his bio-data, Mayer attended Berkelee College of Music in Boston and then he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1997 where he refined his skills and gained a following.

His first two studio albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, were commercially successful, achieving multi-platinum status. In 2003, he won a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance Grammy Award for Your Body is a Wonderland.

“I’m a fan of this acoustic genius,” added Jomari.

Mayer began his career performing mainly acoustic rock and gradually turned to blues genre in 2005 by collaborating with blues artists like B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton, and then forming the John Mayer Trio. The blues influence is apparent on Continuum (released in Sept. 2006), the same album that won for him the Best Pop Vocal Album Award at the 49th Grammys in 2007, and Waiting on the World to Change the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He released Battle Studies, his fourth studio album, in November last year.

“When I say ‘multi-talented’,” said Jomari, “I mean it.”

True enough, Mayer has branched out to stand-up comedy, designing and writing pieces for magazines mostly Esquire. He is also involved in philanthropic activities through his Back to You fund.

When he entered into high-profile romantic relationships, like the one with Aniston, he became a favorite tabloid staple.

So when is Mayer coming?

“Wait na lang for further announcement,” said Jomari.
