MANILA, Philippines - The Navotas city government, the country’s Fishing Capital, gets ready for its 104th founding anniversary on Jan.16.
The Navotas Day Celebration Committee has lined up week-long festivities, which will begin tomorrow, Jan. 9 up to 16 and will be highlighted by the traditional Grand Parade.
The anniversary celebration, also known as Pangisdaan Festival, is composed of the following schedule of activities under this year’s theme “Bagong Sigla ay Susunod na, Sa Disiplina’t Pagsisikap Patuloy Tayong Magsa-sama.”
Jan. 9: Pistang Kristiyano and Aeromarathon (4 a.m. at Centennial Park); Aeromarathon (5:30 a.m. at Centennial Park); ecumenical service, (8 a.m. at Centennial Park); opening of Tiangge (8 a.m. at Centennial Park); city-wide motorcade at 9 a.m.; Strong Man Challenge (2 p.m. at Centennial Park); Birit Superstar (6 p.m. at Bgy. Tanza Perlass) and Talent Night (6 p.m. at Navotas City Hall).
Jan. 10: Children’s Day (8 a.m. at Centennial Park); drum and lyre competition (1 p.m. at Centennial Park) and aerobics dance (6 p.m. at Centennial Park).
Jan. 11: Mega Jobs Fair (9 a.m. at City Hall) and Mutya ng Navotas (7 p.m. at Navotas City Hall).
Jan. 12: Pangisdaan Festival/Street Dancing Competition (5 a.m. at Centennial Park) and Battle of the Bands (6 p.m. at Centennial Park).
Jan. 13: Perlass de Navotas coronation night (6 p.m. at Centennial Park).
Jan. 14: Mutya ng Navotas coronation night (6 p.m. at Centennial Park).
Jan. 15: Variety show (7 p.m. Centennial Park), fireworks display and grand parade.
The grand will be participated in by all sectors of society and be led by the city officials headed by Mayor Toby Tiangco.
Navotas has received numerous awards and citations, making it one of the most competitive and productive local government units in the country.
Navotas won the Cleanest and Greenest Municipality Award in NCR in 2001, 2003, 2004, Best Peace and Order Council for three straight years (2003, 2004, 2005), Best Municipal Jail 2001, 2002, Best Municipal Police Station 2001, 2002, Best Anti-Drug Abuse Council in 2003, Outstanding LGU for Literacy Program in 2002 and Highest Apprehension in CAMANAVA for Drug related cases.
