In the late ’50s and early ’60s, Tony Marzan stood out from his contemporaries as he was built up as a rugged actor, cast in action pictures, among them Kamandag. Sampaguita was then home to pretty boys and matinee idols like Eddie Gutierrez, Jose Mari, Romeo Vasquez, Lito Legaspi, Greg Martin and Juancho Gutierrez.
Tony was a discovery of Sampaguita PR Chari Araullo, her neighbor in Sampaloc, Manila. He worked with the advertising department of the pre-martial law Evening News.
In Kamandag, directed by Jose de Villa, Tony was in the distinguished company of Jose Padilla Jr., Fred Montilla, Van de Leon, Eddie Garcia, Paraluman, Rita Gomez, Marlene Dauden and Rosa Mia. He played a savage outlaw. — RKC
