MANILA, Philippines - Catch the unique travel series this November on National Geographic Channel featuring Zhang Ziyi on her amazing personal journey into the world’s most wonderful and exotic places.
Join her in the Zhang Ziyi Travel Series as she explores the edge of the world with the help of local guides. Whether following a herd of wild horses at dawn or dancing with warrior-musicians, Ziyi embraces the cultures she encounters to discover how people nurture their heritage, culture, history, music and art, and preserve Mother Nature.
Filmed in high definition, the 30-minute series sponsored by the Shangri-La Hotel Group presents a variety of visuals and stills of art and historical images of the most stunning natural landscapes in Ziyi’s unique perspective.
Ziyi, global ambassador of Shangri-La, is proud to be part of this project which shows Shangri-La’s long-standing commitment to preserve nature. “The greatest experience for me from this project is the connection I felt with nature and all the wonderful, wild animals,” she said.
“Through this project, I had the opportunity to travel to the Middle East to learn about the protection of sea turtles and see thousands of dolphins swimming in the ocean.
“I’m now able to fully appreciate everything that nature provides us in our daily lives. This trip has helped me realize how much nature gives us and the importance of protecting the environment,” she said.
In Zhang Ziyi’s Oman, Ziyi explores themes of heritage and conservation. Landing in Muscat, capital of the Arabian nation, Ziyi meets local guide Hafidh and visits the city’s old Souq, or marketplace, to learn about its social and economic functions. Oman is an Islamic nation, and Khalfan Al-Esry hosts a tour of the impressively modern Grand Mosque.
The sultanate’s coastline and natural history is also featured, as Ziyi joins park ranger Mohammed on the water, where they encounter hundreds of dolphins, and on the beach, where they watch baby sea turtles hatching and making their way to the sea. She also meets the sultan’s sister, Her Highness Sayyedha Tania Al-Said who explains other conservation efforts underway in Oman. Ziyi ventures into the stunning Wahibi sands for an encounter with the nomadic Bedouin, where she learns about life in the desert, rides a camel on the dunes, and dances to the music the musicians perform for her.
