Pinoy hip-hop crews in Kapuso dance showdown
MANILA, Philippines - Four hip-hop crews ruled four coasts — US East, Canada East, US West, Canada West — in the recent Pinoy Dance Showdown, mounted by GMA Pinoy TV.
The showdown is the first of its kind in the US and Canada.
The on-line, on-air, and on-ground dance event began with contestants — dance crews with at least four members with Pinoy roots — registering and uploading their dance routine videos on www.gmapinoytv.com/pinoydance.
The dance crews with the highest number of on-line votes went on the to finals in their respective areas for a dance-off.
Poreotics outdanced the competition at the US West Coast finals while PraiseTEAM! emerged triumphant in the Canada-West Coast finals. At the US East Coast dance-off, Flipclyde iLLstars ruled while I Rock With The One! nabbed the Canada-East Coast crown.
Poreotics short for popping choreography robotics was founded last December 2007. Team captain Dumbo and members Popncan, asimo, Law, Jetli, Chad showcased their dancefloor-busting moves at the Heritage Forum in Anaheim, California.
PraiseTEAM! is a dance and theater arts ministry composed of crew captain Boogie and members Missy, Beulah, Mickee,Locsin, Flojo, and AJ.
Describing themselves as representatives of the fun side of hip-hop dance, Flipclyde iLLstars is composed of captain Wa Boogie and members Jeffreeze, Dell, Blaze,The Dragon, Sha, and Tiff.
I Rock With The One! was founded by team captain Kyeu and members Baby Boi, Kang, PauPau, Jay-V, JP and Flo last June.
The US and Canada East Coast finals featured Marvin Agustin, Pauleen Luna and Jay-R while the US and Canada West Coast finals had Jay-R, Mark Herras, Katrina Halili, and Rhian Ramos.
All four winning dance crews received $7,000 each.
