Going full Cirque

MANILA, Philippines - Attending an event means slipping into your best outfit, socializing no end or making a late entrance and a French exit. That sounds fabulous among partyphiles. But for the think tanks behind it, the word event is synonymous to hard work.

Tim Yap’s Events Incorporated on Q-11 has shown all of this by giving televiewers the VIP pass to metro’s must-go-to parties and witnessing what’s going on beyond the dance floor or behind the boardroom.

The show’s Top Party School: Search for the Best College Party was a testament to its commitment to bring everyone where the real party happens and to share something new.

“Events Incorporated is about throwing parties. And we wanted to do something for the students,” explains program manager Berna Young of the competition. “We asked them to submit (party) concepts and chose the Top 3 ideas. The groups had to attend a workshop.”

Students from University of the Philippines-Manila, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, DLSU-College of St. Benilde were the first ones to show interest in taking the challenge.

Participants had one-on-ones with Tim, Stephen Ku, Robbie Carmona and JR Isaac learning the ABCs of organizing and managing events. At the heart of it was coming up with a one-of-a-kind party which should have “a good, saleable concept and is do-able,” as Young puts it. 

UP Manila’s carnival-inspired party called Cirque won the judges’ nod. Events Incorporated helped the winning students to make things happen, so to speak.

Recently, UP Manila students turned One Esplanade near SM Mall of Asia into their playing field. Guests were treated to different fun activities such as fortune-telling, face painting and picture-taking. Magicians roamed around to trick and treat everyone.

The fashionistas in the crowd, on the other hand, found out what’s hot in a fashion show titled Cirque de Mode.

The fun never stopped as Krissa Mae set the party mood while Pedicab pumped it up some more with their solo spots.

To figure out what transpired that night, Events Incorporated is airing Cirque tomorrow, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.

What made Cirque the winning concept? The answer lies in its clean, fun advocacy, devoid of alcohol and drugs, only cocktails. It is one shindig parents will not deprive their children of. Part of the event’s proceeds will go to the students’ foundation of choice and Ondoy victims.
