Pulp welcomes ArchEnemy

MANILA, Philippines - They’re coming on Oct. 20, and it’s going to be the year’s loudest rock event as international metal outfit ArchEnemy, known for its lethal brand of melodic yet aggressive music style, is all set to treat heavy metal fans to a one-night only performance at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, alongside Mortal Fear, Badburn, Intolerant and Bloodshedd.

Meanwhile, it’s an all-out metal fest and tribute to the meaner, darker music genre as PULP features not one, but two of the current local scene’s best outfits. PULP Music Editor Jason Caballa first interviews and writes the feature on Cog, a decade-spanning-and-still-going-strong outfit that has arguably changed the sound and approach of local heavy metal.  The band, whose debut album Conflagration earned for it a strong following in and outside Manila, will release its next full-length album soon.

As for the other half of the heavy metal pie, Red Horse Beer Muziklaban finalists Mortal Fear are also making a name for themselves as one of the fiercest local acts which have embraced the hard-work, no-guts-no-glory independent route. Thus, they’re also taking the spotlight this month. Not exactly a new band, vocalist Stephen Jean Jaquet along with his cohorts guitarists Brian del Pasion and Mike Ko, bassist Gelo Peren and drummer Yek Cardinal recounts the growing pains and life as it is for Mortal Fear after it has announced its arrival.

Since it’s PULP’s 100th issue, the magazine’s editorial team compiles its list of Top 100 Local Rock Albums of All Time and Top 100 Local Rock Songs. Are your favorites included in the list?

As a special tribute to the readers and fans who attend the annual PULP Summer Slam — the country’s largest annual rock show— PULP also puts the spotlight on the members of the PULP Army and presents the wild, wacky and loyal to the rest of the world.
