Life after the storm
MANILA, Philippines - After Ondoy came and took lives and properties away in Metro Manila, Typhoon Pepeng followed and caused disaster in other parts of the country. Join Bernadette Sembrano (photo) as she looks into the lives of the Filipinos affected by the calamity tonight on ABS-CBN’s The Correspondents.
The tragedy brought about by Ondoy (288 people dead and billions in properties lost) sparked vigilance among Filipinos. The local government in Bulacan bought jetskis and rubber boats while residents got inflatable items just in case Pepeng would cause a flood again.
Pepeng, however, went another way and brought strong winds and rains in Northern Luzon instead. Bernadette and team captured on camera how Pepeng surged into Isabela, Cagayan, took down trees and blew away roofs. Once again, houses and livelihood were submerged in water.
How are Filipinos moving on after Ondoy and Pepeng? Have the floods taken away their hope as well? Look back at the other issues tackled in the program at www.thecorrespondents.multiply.com. Join Bernadette as she tells the story of hope and desperation of the victims of Ondoy and Pepeng.
