The Jazzipino sound

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Titled Jazzipino, the CD is made up of classic, traditional and new Filipino songs given jazz arrangements. Charmaine Clamor (photo) recorded the album for Free Ham Records and it is locally distributed by Viva Records. She chose some of the most loved Filipino songs from the past century for inclusion in her album. All of these native titles easily lent themselves to the new arrangements, some of them by Charmaine herself. These are Dahil Sa’Yo by Mike Velarde and Dominador Santiago; Minamahal Kita also by Velarde; Lahat Ng Araw by Velarde and Dominador Suarez; Usahay by Nitoy Gonzales; Sa Ugoy ng Duyan by National Artists Lucio San Pedro and Levi Celerio. Pakiusap by Santiago and Jose Corazonde Jesus; Minamahal, Sinasamba by Tito Arevalo adapted by Andrei Dionisio and feat. Mon David; Matud Nila by Ben Zubiri; Dungawin Mo Hirang by Santiago Suarez; Ay Kalisud by Jose Corazon de Jesus and Jovita Fuentes; and Hindi Kita Malimot by Josefino Cenizal in a medley with Panahon Na by Charmaine. The traditional songs are O Ilaw, Pamulinawen and Harana Sa Dilim, a Bicolano song arranged by Richard Ickard and Charmaine. Featured as a bonus track is Charmaine’s new take on the Richard Rodgers and Larry Hart classic My Funny Valentine, which she titled My Funny Brown Pinay.

Charmaine was born in Subic, Zambales and moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was 16. It was then that she started doing gigs.

Jazzipino is sponsored by Business World and Herword.com.
