MANILA, Philippines - Western Union releases Galing ng Pinoy, a song dedicated to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). It pays tribute to the OFWs’ journey towards achieving their dream.
“From the time Filipinos depart for their work destination to build their savings until they return to the Philippines to reap their rewards, Western Union is part of the journey,” says Patricia Riingen, SVP for Pacific and Indochina of The Western Union Company. “Western Union pays tribute to the Filipino migrant workers because they are modern heroes. And what better way to communicate this than through music?”
Western Union chooses Rhap Salazar as the voice of Galing ng Pinoy.
“I feel happy because I would be promoting the song around the world,” says the 12-year-old Star Record talent. Written by music producer Jonathan Manalo, whose works include Pinoy Ako from the Pinoy Big Brother series, the three-minute song is upbeat and uplifting. Rhap adds, “It is beautiful because it talks about the Filipino’s determination and strength.”
A music video will be shown in events by Western Union around the world. Detailing the story of OFWs, who, to support their families, leave their loved ones to work in a foreign country, the music video features Rhap chanting the battle cry as their journey unfolds. Rhap Salazar entered the local scene in 2005 when he became the grand winner in ABS-CBN’s Little Big Star. In 2007, he was part of the top-rated fantaserye Kokey. Then, last July, Rhap claimed his place on the global stage as he became the junior grand champion performer and solo vocalist of the world in the World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA).
