MANILA, Philippines - With Mcoy Fundales as moving spirit, the Kenyo band is back with a brand-new album called Maharlika, released by Universal Records.
On this latest outing, Kenyo writes and performs original music. The band’s affinity to access pop sensibilities, sweet nostalgic sound, honest, down-to-earth lyricism and edgy musical approach makes Maharlika a thrilling experience.
The maiden hit single from the CD, Hanggang Sa Muli is a fitting ode to the Overseas Filipino Workers. It is one of the most played OPM songs on the airlanes. Kenyo members are from the province of Bulacan, all Bulakenyo, hence the monicker Kenyo. They are Mcoy Fundales (lead vocals/guitars); Ace del Mundo (guitars); JM del Mundo (bass guitars); Cleng Ocampo (guitars); and Ariz Villalon (drums/percussions).
The first three are former members of Orange and Lemons. Mcoy was also a housemate of Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition, Season 2.
Formed in 2008, Kenyo’s potential was immediately noticed by Universal Records, with which they inked a recording contract on the same year.
Kenyo’s album Radiosurfing spawned hits Sana and Ayoko Na Sa ’Yo. The album also led the group to a successful US tour last year.
The 12 tracks on Maharlika point to the musical direction Kenyo is heading. The 11 new songs are love anthems, themes or simply favorite tunes. The entire repertoire is influenced by varied cultures, but is very Pinoy.
