MANILA, Philippines - It wasn’t billed that way, but Og, topbilled by Mr. Philippines Jesus Ramos, may well be Philippine cinema’s answer to Hollywood’s Tarzan, popularized by, among others, Johnny Weismuller.
Og was produced by Premiere in 1952, after which came more Og movies, telling of the adventures of the jungle man in other places, like the city and the army.
Ramos later freelanced and made non-Og movies, but he’s forever identified with the jungle man.
Other actors who played Tarzan-like roles on the big screen include Cesar Ramirez (another muscleman) as Dumagit, Ben Perez as Kulafu, Teody Belarmino as Tani. – RKC
