MANILA, Philippines - Johnny Alegre (photo) is back with a jazz album Johnny Alegre 3. It was recorded in New York with nine tracks which Alegre himself performs. His compositions like Wildflower, Offering, From Long Ago, Theme from Humanfolk and more cross international borders because they are his collaborations with international jazz legends Billy Hart and Ron McClure.
Alegre’s recent album launch at Strumm’s Makati was sponsored by Dream 106.7 FM and MCA Music, Inc.
Alegre’s involvement in the Philippine music scene spans more than three decades of Pinoy rock.
The composer-arranger-record producer-performer formed the jazz group Afinity that caught the attention of London-based jazz specialty label, Candid Records. Their first eponymous album was released in the Philippines in mid-2005, and re-released in UK as Jazzhound. In 2008, Alegre released Eastern Skies, an orchestral jazz collaboration with conductor Gerard Salonga and arranger Ria Villena-Osorio.
Johnny Alegre 3 also marks Alegre’s entry to his new home and record label, MCA Music (Philippines) of the Universal Music Group.
