SM City Davao celebrates Kadayawan Festival

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Every third week of August, Davao celebrates the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest, and the serenity of living in the Kadayawan Festival.

SM City Davao joins the festival with exhibits, cultural presentations, food promotions, street dancing and performances by the country’s top young celebrities to honor the city’s artistic, cultural, and historic heritage.

Mallgoers can have a glimpse of Mindanao’s bounty — flowers, fruits, plants, vegetables, and crafts — at the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair and Exhibit which is ongoing until Aug. 31 at SM City Davao.

Indak, Indak, a street dancing parade, will capture Kadawayan’s pomp and pageantry as it goes around SM City Davao today and on Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. Sayaw Mindanao, on the other hand, showcases Mindanaoan myths, legends, and folklore expressed in grand dance interpretations. This will take place on Aug. 18 to 21 at the Events Center.

Tribal Costume Exhibition, set at the Events Center today until 23, pays tribute to Davao’s cultural diversity with its collection of traditional and contemporary ethnic clothing. Moda Mindanao, which will be held on Aug. 23 at Events Center displays homegrown fashion designers and florists that give a modern twist to Mindanaoan silhouettes, traditional ethnic colors and natural fibers.

Collections of Davao’s premiere fashion designers will be highlighted on Aug. 23, 6 p.m. at Events Center.

Featured performers are Rachelle Ann Go at 4 p.m. and Pupil at 6 p.m., both at Events Center. Dingdong Dantes will serenade fans on Aug. 23, 4 p.m. at Events Center.

Kadayawan festivities will not be complete without the Floral Float Parades, testament to Davao’s beauty and bounty, and some of the best entries to the parade will be showcased on Aug. 23 at Open Parking C of SM City Davao.
