The Library turns 24 June 21

MANILA, Philippines - It seemed like only yesterday when The Library started its business at Adriatico St., Malate, Manila. Nobody could tell that the small watering hole would become a favorite live entertainment place of many.

The Library became the stepping stone to fame of stand-up comedians like Allan K., Leonard Obal, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Arnell Ignacio, Phillip Lazaro, Pooh, Vice Ganda, Anton Diva, Rey Kilay and Wally Bayola.

The Library even became a bigger name when a number of stand-up comedians started to be known in the entertainment world. Instrumental to the place’s success was the guidance of owner Andrew “Mamu” de Real, who is also the person behind the big and exciting shows being staged at the said venue that have attracted local folks, balikbayan and foreigners.

And even if The Library had to say its former home goodbye to give way to a condo and move to its new home at Orosa St. cor. Nakpil St. in Malate, its popularity has grown. The bigger Library can accommodate more people, thus meaning double the fun for its regular clientele.

The shows are now bigger and grandiose, with new talents like Raging Divas, Lola Divas and DRAG-ONS providing fun-filled entertainment. There are more and new stand-up comedians like Kim Dinosaur, Rufa Mi and Quizon Brothers (Rowell at John).

To mark its 24th anniversary, The Library will throw a week-long celebration starting June 24. A stellar line-up of stars will headline its shows. The event will feature EB Babes, Ruby Rodriguez, Sex Bomb Dancers, Beverly Salviejo, Phillip, Joaquin Garcia, John “Sweet” Lapus and a lot more.

As a token of gratitude to its patrons and friends, The Library will hold a raffle draw every night until June 21.

On its anniversary night on June 21, the annual Golden Book Awards will be held. This is the recognition night for the talented stand-up comedians and performers who take the challenge of The Library stage. It is a much-awaited event as the staff of The Library and the in-house talents join the merrymaking by participating in production numbers. Think of A.S.A.P., S.O.P., the Academy Awards and the Grammy’s rolled into one fabulous night.
