MANILA, Philippines – Tonight on Sunday Night Box-Office (SNBO), know more about Regine Velasquez as GMA Network presents the first docu-musical special that unveils The Songbird’s journey from her humble beginnings to her achievements in Regine... Roots to Riches.
The special is a touching, inspiring concert special staged at the Centro Escolar University gymnasium in Malolos, Bulacan.
The docu-musical blends production numbers and documentary videos that trace the roots of Regina Encarnacion Velasquez, whose singing career started by joining amateur singing contests all over Bulacan and on national TV.
Regine presents celebrities and ordinary people who have helped, contributed and supported her and molded her to become who she is today.
Among them are Mang Estong, the tricycle driver who used to take her to singing competitions in different towns; Susan Galvez, her grade school teacher who used to make her gowns or costumes for free; Mang Gerry, her father, trainor and first manager; Ronnie Henares, Regine’s former manager; and Cacai Mitra, her sister and current manager.
Joining Regine in the musical extravaganza are Pilita Corrales, host of Ang Bagong Kampeon; Pops Fernandez, host of Penthouse Live where she made her first TV guest appearance; and Jose Mari Chan, with whom she did her first recorded duet. Also on the show are Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo.
But the biggest surprise is the showdown between Regine and her nemesis from her childhood years who competed against her note for note in amateur singing contests: Eva Castillo.
Regine sings the songs that have seen her through her years in the industry: And I Am Telling You, Love Me Again, Narito Ako and Bakit Ako Mahihiya. Watch out for Regine’s special performances with Jose Mari Chan singing Please Be Careful With My Heart, and with Pilita performing the big band version of Beyoncé’s Single Ladies.
