A family in perfect harmony

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In the modern scheme of things given that communication is a major factor to any successful relationship, a family that‘s into the Internet together is more likely to stay together.

One such patriarch famously called mr. c definitely knows this and being the man who wears many hats, he says family ties get going even when they are not physically together, just as long as their computers are on.

Ryan Cayabyab is known for being always ahead of the pack. So while some of his contemporaries have found themselves at a loss dealing with advancement in technology to go with their businesses, he is enjoying the comforts and thrills of Internet communication.

“My business is mostly done on the Internet. When I do productions in music and send audio files and photos, these are sent through e-mail or chat,” says Mr. C who is a proud family man blessed with charming wife Emy and two gifted kids Krina and Toma, all of whom, quite expectedly, are devotees of what their famous dad is known the world over — music.

All four members of Cayabyab family happily admit the Internet plays a vital role in their daily lives as everyone does Internet surfing for research, on-line chatting for socializing, and e-mailing for business transactions. Their family is one satisfied recipient of pldt mydsl Broadband Connection service at home and the accompanying Weroam Wireless Access that allows them to connect wherever they are.

Like Mr. C, most loyal dsl subscribers can enjoy the same benefits that allow them to acquire freebies from Weroam depending on their dsl plan. Subscribers of plans 1995 or 3000 can get their Weroam data card free while dsl plan 999 subscribers could either get the Weroam datacard at a discount or enjoy 10 hours of surfing for free depending on their Weroam plan.

Krina, very much into conducting music and is about to graduate in up College of Music, sees the value of Internet as one that makes the process of creating music faster. She’s the leader of an all-female band and the broadband access makes it easier for her to send compositions to band mates just in time for their rehearsals.

“I usually use computers to transcribe the musical notes. And we have this yahoo group and other on-line engines where stuff can be sent much faster,” she shares.

Toma just graduated from high school. His passion and talent lie in making videos and musical scoring. He works on these either for school projects or for personal portfolio. Just like his elder sister, on-line hook-ups like YouTube and stuff like that are his buddies in times of researching and posting.

Mr. C is proud to have creative artists for his kids and he recognizes their great potential in this modern world. “Individually, every artist now can actually conquer the world and make it on his own. We just have to open up our minds and see how we can adapt in this new order. With Internet, we have knowledge at our fingertips.”

Emy is also a music and theater figure. Mrs. C was once a student of the maestro. And music being the one that brought them together is still what keeps their love affair intact.

The Ryan Cayabyab School of Music (which found its home in Robinsons Galleria) established in 1986 has become their second home, with all of them working to keep it going as a venue where people are professionally trained to perform and create music. The family practically grew up with the school and some of their bonding times have been spent here.

Ever the light that keeps the home cheerful and bright, Mrs. C cautions, “As a parent I have to be responsible to make my children realize the ups and downs of being glued to Internet. It’s good to have the Internet since it is current and it helps meet school requirements. It’s also challenging because we have to guard them against what’s supposed to be seen or heard. So far, so good,” she reports.
