MANILA, Philippines – The 13 band-finalists of this year’s Nescafé Soundskool competition scorched the stage during the finals night not only through their explosive performances, but also through outfits from Penshoppe and make-up by L’Oreal Paris Studio Line and Maybelline.
Looking your best, after all, likewise plays an integral part in making your presence felt in the music industry. With the star makeovers, the talented young musicians created an impact as they performed with the country’s biggest bands at the ULTRA.
“The next generation superstar makeovers that it provides is just one of the many things that we want our finalists to learn from. It is part of Nescafé Soundskool’s comprehensive approach in training young bands on how to make it in the music scene,” said Eileen Bangcoro, Nescafé marketing and promotions manager.
“It definitely prepared us for the finals and to be more confident in joining the industry,” said vocalist Aldrick Yu of Letter Day Story, this year’s winner of Nescafé Soundskool. The band took home P250,000 in cash, a record label deal from Sony BMG Music Entertainment and P150,000-worth of band setup for their school.
Wearing outfits by Penshoppe, meanwhile, the finalists, like Jerlyn Mae Astor of University of Cebu’s Baronets, said, “These outfits definitely helped us rocked the stage.”
One of the things the makeover emphasized was for the bands to wear proper clothing.
The finalists in this year’s competition also included St. Mary’s College’s Keyk, AMA Davao Campus’ C-Shifter, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan’s Teachers Stand Together, Eastern Visayas State University’s Skalivur, STI Tacloban’s Sounville, Wesleyan University-Philippines’ 7th Skool, Lyceum Institute of Technology’s Maracore, Jose Rizal University’s Project, and St. Scholastica’s College’s Grace Note.
Before the makeover, all 13 band-finalists underwent a workshop program in Boracay with members of Sandwich, Sugarfree, 6Cyclemind and Callalily serving as their mentors. Their speakers likewise included Vic Valenciano of Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Darwin Hernandez of Soupstar Entertainment.
Bamboo, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee and Nescafé Soundskool 2006 winner Hilera performed in the finals night.
The event is presented by Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park, La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel, Boracay Mandarin Island Hotel, Tommy Hilfiger Eyewear, Boracay Scuba, and Bounce Magazine.
