MANILA, Philippines - On April 30, the Philippines will once again behold the biggest annual rock spectacle as PULP Magazine unleashes the might of rock n’ roll with the PULP Summer Slam 9: Countdown to Extinction, the rock n’ roll mecca attended by thousands from all over the country as it features more than 30 of the country’s biggest names in rock music. It also welcomes Grammy Award-nominated international heavy metal act Shadows Fall, in a repeat visit to the country that will blow away thousands of music enthusiasts at the said event.
But it’s not only Shadows Fall that is coming from a long way, as this year’s PULP Summer Slam promises not one, but five other international rock acts which are ready to get the party started: From Hong Kong, there’s seminal Asian hardcore act King Lychee, and an all-Filipino metal-core act Shepherds The Weak; while Malaysia’s premier modern rock outfit Pop Shuvit is also ready to dominate the stage. Meanwhile, Australia’s Unholy Ground is prepared to keep the flame of heavy metal burning while Norway’s premier thrash outfit Goddamn is ready to get the mosh pits started.
For P240, lucky concertgoers and loyal rock fans will get a free cup of Red Horse Beer, free Pepsi, a free slice of Pizza Hut Pizza, a free P30 Smart Buddy Load or sim card and a P50 discount on the official PULP Summer Slam T-shirt by Tribal Gear.
PULP’s April 2009 issue, now available nationwide, treats its readers to another packed-with-a-punch issue as it delivers not just the best music features, album reviews and current news, but puts the highlight on The Slam by featuring various personalities and celebrities in and outside the music world recounting their favorite PULP Summer Slam experiences, and offering their predictions of this year’s all-night, 16-hour rock festival. PULP also features Greyhoundz as it makes a comeback with a menacing new album Execution Style, its fourth full-length album. Charged with vintage heavy metal and flavored with a modern style, Reg Rubio and company are out to reclaim their nu metal throne with this disc, and writer Hershey Homol piques the minds of the four individuals behind this seemingly angry group of musicians.
It’s music editor Jason Caballa who offers a healthy shot of variety as he features one of the newest darlings of the local rock scene, Duster. Featuring vocalist Katwo Puertollano, guitarist Kris Gorra-Dancel, bassist Myrene Academia and drummer Ristalle Bautista, the female-supergroup of sorts proves that girls “just wanna have fun.”
