Motherhood won't make Karel quit showbiz

Congratulations to new mom Karel Marquez who gave birth to Kaylie Audriana, a pretty baby girl last March 14 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Karel is very happy with her new bundle of joy despite sleepless nights.

“I have sleepless nights. Worse than taping days na puyatan. But it’s not the kind that I would say, “Ayaw ko na.”

Karel is lucky to have a mom like Pinky Marquez. “During the first week, I was texting her. Mom, where are you? Do you have taping? Kung wala, come here na lang. And she’ll be here naman.”

Contrary to rumors, Karel is not leaving showbiz. “I have not thought about leaving showbiz. It’s really in my blood. I still have the drive to perform. I’m taking my time with Kaylie muna.”

Karel and husband Arman Go met in Boracay in 2008. It was not love at first sight for them. They were married in civil rites. Arman used to be part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 5.

Did Zanjoe have a fling in Paris?

It’s not true that Zanjoe Marudo had a fling with a French girl while taping Lovers In Paris topbilled by KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual. While Zanjoe was in the City of Lights, rumors circulated that he was dating a French woman and has not had the time to call girlfriend Mariel Rodriguez. Zanjoe clarified that it could not have happened. He does not know a French word and he was just too busy with work. “There are too many beautiful girls in Paris. Hanggang tingin na lang ako because we don’t understand each other,” said Zanjoe.

Zanjoe said he and Mariel are going strong. And no French girl will ever spoil that.

The hint of romance

If Matt Evans had his way, he would want Melissa Ricks to choose him as a boyfriend. They make a handsome pair. And they like each other. But why can’t they be in a relationship? Matt says love and work can’t go together and he and Melissa would like to concentrate on their work.

MattMel (as they are fondly called) are products of reality TV shows. Matt was one of the housemates on Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition while Melissa was in the Top 5 of Star Circle Quest. Their chemistry as a tandem was tested when they worked together on Komiks Presents: The Adventures of Pedro Penduko and Iisa Pa Lamang where they established a solid fan base. But it seems a love triangle is in the offing with the entrance of Jake Cuenca who made public his admiration for Melissa. “It is hard not to admire a woman like Melissa Ricks,” Jake said.

The CompanY’s Star Power workshops

The CompanY, in partnership with Trumpets Playshop will offer vocal performance workshops this summer.

The workshops titled Star Power aim to give students a good foundation on efficient vocal technique alongside the requirements of an effective pop vocal performance. The workshops will also delve on different aspects of a vocal performance: Theatrics, staging, spiels, packaging, costuming, diction, repertoire building, etc.

The workshops are an eight-week course that begins today. Culminating activity is a pop concert performance (showcase). Star Power workshops are open to vocal performers (both professional and amateur enthusiasts) aged seven and above.

Schedule of classes are Star Power A — 15 years old and above, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., P7,650; and Star Power B — 10 to 14 years old, Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., P7,650.

Workshop students will be initially required to perform a song with minus-one accompaniment (i.e. pre-recorded backing tracks) for assessment/evaluation.
