MANILA, Philippines - To usher in the activities for this year’s Aliwan Fiesta celebrations, Manila Broadcasting Company will join Cultural Center of the Philippines in convening a Forum on Streetdance, set at the Silangan Hall of CCP on April 23.
The whole-day program will feature resource speakers led by Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, choreographer Edna Vida, world music specialist Joey Ayala and theater director Chris Millado. Case studies showing best practice among streetdance preparations for festivals in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will also be presented.
The event hopes to enable festival organizers, choreographers, production designers and musicians to strike a balance between popular production value and inherent traditions by making streetdancing a culture-based medium steeped in pride of place and historicity. It will also prepare proponents of festival streetdance for the grand Aliwan Fiesta competition next year, which will determine who will represent the Philippines at the global street theater festival in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 2011.
