American Idols David C. & David A. coming

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

Curtain-raisers:

•  A celebrated lady is said to be insatiable in bed. “Once is enough” is definitely not her guiding principle because she so overflows with, ehem, “generosity” that she must have it every day. “It’s her elixir,” said somebody who knows the lady very well. “Araw-Araw, Gabi-Gabi yata ang theme song niya, eh.” Few men can match her, hmmmm, prowess. Is that why a hunky character actor raised the white flag after only a short affair with her? She’s between lovers.

• Could it be true that the new boyfriend of a sexy actress (older sister of another sexy actress) is the grandson of a business tycoon (who owns a newspaper)? The guy’s family reportedly loves the actress so much and treats her like a member.

•  A young, talented drama actor vehemently denied that he “milked” an actress-politician with whom he had an affair. Because the actress is almost 20 years the actor’s senior, she was teased by friends as his Sugar Mommy. Not true, said the actor who lost not only his own family but also his house and his car which he sold to sustain himself while offers stopped coming. “I never sold and will never ever sell my body,” he insisted.

FLASH: Two American Idols are coming for a concert first week of May probably at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Open Ground.

They are no other than David Cook, winner of last year’s American Idol (Season 7) search, and David Archuleta, one of the Top 3 finalists in the same search.

That much Funfare is allowed to say for the meantime about the concert which should be a good reason for AI fans to celebrate (and start saving their allowances for).

It’s the second project of Jomari Yllana and his friends, Singson brothers Ronald and Ryan. Their first was the Missing You reunion concert of Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera three Saturdays ago at the Big Dome.

Stay tuned for development.

Her first movie with John Lloyd Cruz, Star Cinema’s A Very Special Love, grossed more than P180 million nationwide, thus qualifying Sarah Geronimo as The Box-Office Queen of 2008, an honor that just might be conferred on her by the forthcoming Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards. Her nearest rival, Ai-Ai delas Alas, has been disqualified due to a technicality — you know, even if her starrer Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat topped the 2008 Metro Filmfest

and is projected to earn close to P200 million nationwide, only its 2008 gross is counted. Better luck next time, Ai-Ai.

Sarah’s new movie with John Lloyd, You Changed My Life (also from Star Cinema and again directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina), is predicted to surpass the record of the first. It’s opening today nationwide.

Here’s a brief Q&A with Sarah:

How has John Lloyd changed your life?

“I learned a lot from him. I won’t elaborate. Malalim ang taong ‘yan.

Because John Lloyd is quiet, people think he’s suplado. After A Very Special Love, ang daming blessings na dumating sa buhay ko. John Lloyd is my lucky charm.”

What else do you like about John Lloyd?

“He’s professional, hard-working.”

If John Lloyd didn’t have a girlfriend and he courted you, may pag-asa kaya siya?

“Ha? Hmmmm...Hindi ko po masasabi. John Lloyd is a good friend.”

You’re 20 but they say that you’re not ready to have a boyfriend yet. Ayaw ba ng parents mo?

“Ayaw nila and I myself is not ready yet for a commitment. I am not mature enough. My priority is my career.”

So what do you tell your suitors? Do you ask them to wait for two years, five years or 10 years?

“Actually, I’ve told that to one persistent suitor. Makulit siya, eh. Hehehe!”

Who was he?

“Secret!”

What qualities do you want in a guy?

“God-fearing, respectful, mabait at siempre guapo.”

Put together the qualities of three actors you (secretly) admire and who would he be?

“Ay, si Piolo Pascual na ‘yon! Parang nasa kanya na lahat ng qualities na ‘yon, eh!”

How does it feel to be one of the truly hot properties of ABS-CBN and Star Cinema?

“Wow, thankful! Sobrang blessed. Lucky lang talaga.” (Note: Even if they are not an item in real life, Sarah and John Lloyd have chemistry as screen sweethearts.)

Aside from John Lloyd, who do you want as leading man?

“Si Piolo Pascual!”

How has stardom changed your life?

“I have become stronger sa mga intriga. Before, I got affected even by the smallest (negative) write-up. Now I understand the ins and outs of showbiz. Mas matibay na ang sikmura ko and I’m starting to fully enjoy showbiz. And, of course, ang laki ng pinagbago ng buhay ng pamilya namin. I won’t elaborate na.”

Joy Ortega in Hollywood indie

Remember Joy Ortega who once played Kris Aquino in a play? Not many people know that she has been living in the US. The good news is that Joy is starring in an indie Hollywood film called The Deported, produced by Redford and Cindy Mejia, and starring Nick Turturo (NYPD Blues, Sopranos, Chuck and Larry, etc.), David Proval (Sopranos, The Siege, Shawshank Redemption, Heartbreak Kid, etc.), Paul Rodriguez (DC Cab, Made in America, Quicksilver, Cinderella Story, etc.) and Talia Shire (Rocky, etc.; sister of Francis Ford Coppola). Director is Lance Kawas (Street Boss, The Retreat, etc.).

Joy plays Ana, a Filipina who falls in love with Gianni (Turturo) who was deported to Mexico.
