More love songs in Love 2 Love 2 Love
MANILA, Philippines - First it was Back 2 Back 2 Back. Now it’s Love 2 Love 2 Love.
On Feb. 15, Side A, Freestyle and M.Y.M.P. will once again take center stage at the Araneta Coliseum to give the same kind of musical wonder that swept the audience away, plus much more. Musical director Naldy Gonzales relates that for the post Valentine gig, they will be infusing the repertoire with more love songs and more pop hits.
Since both Side A and Freestyle have previously shared the stage, that could have given a kind of pressure for M.Y.M.P. in raising the bar as for their act, Juris Fernandez responded well to the challenge as she brought in a surprisingly different act. The lady half of the M.Y.M.P. package sang a Paramore song and belted out a loud-rocking number seemingly unlikely for someone known for her sweet, mellow touch. At one point, the frontwoman took off her shoes so she could appropriately jump while singing the rock track.
Freestyle’s Jinky Vidal captured the crowd with So Slow. Keyboardist Mike Luis, for his part, sang a Christmas song that displayed his cute and playful vocal skill, proving that his solo ’90s hit Iba Ka Na Pala Ngayon made it largely because of his effective vocals. Joshua Desiderio, handsome as he is, churned out a performance that made him all the more gifted.
Side A capped off the night’s performance. Joey Generoso and the rest of the gang showed why they continue to be the most enduring band to hit the local musical landscape. As a fan declared, “Wala pa rin silang kupas.” As expected, Side A made the crowd enjoy both worlds by swaying them with cathartic ballads and upbeat numbers.
Tickets to Love 2 Love 2 Love are available at all SM Ticketnet outlets, Araneta Coliseum box-office or call 911-5555 or 687-6181 loc. 620 and 745. The show is a Viva Concerts and Events production.
