Akon bestows the blessings of Freedom to fans worldwide via his third studio album, released on Konvict/Upfront/ src/Universal Motown. A five-time Grammy nominee, the Senegal native’s previous album was the RIAA triple-platinum-certified Konvicted.
The album’s first smash, Right Now (Na Na Na), shot out of the gate with an immediate Top 10 entry in iTunes’ most-downloaded Top Songs chart, where it has remained since its first week of digital release. The song is still picking up radio play, having reached Top 5 in Rhythm-Crossover airplay nationally, and is bulleting toward the Top 10 at Mainstream Top 40 radio.
On the streets all of one day, Freedom has a proven itself every bit the hit machine its predecessor was. Released to radio and digital retail two weeks after Right Now, I’m So Paid, a meeting of superstars featuring Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy, is bulleting inside Top 25 airplay charts in Rhythm-Crossover and Urban formats.
Troublemaker, the album’s third single, featuring Sweet Rush, has joined the previous two in the Billboard national Hot 100 singles chart. Highlighting Freedom, the title track is an extraordinary autobiographical statement, building in rhythm and intensity to a rousing anthemic conclusion. Akon is joined by Konvict-label platinum hitmaker T-Pain for Holla Holla, which entered the iTunes Top Songs chart on its day of release. Kardinal Offishall, Ray Lavender and Wyclef Jean also guest on the album. Freedom is released by MCA Music, Inc.
