Body Talk with Paolo Contis
While most people sulk after a failed romance, or cry in public (like what Rafael Rosell did at the recent presscon for the movie Status: Single when he announced that he broke up with his girlfriend Malaya Lewandowski, a member of Koolchix), Paolo Contis has a way of springing back in record time. He did it when he broke up with Nancy Castiglione (now only known as Nancy Jane and is abroad waiting to deliver twins courtesy of her non-showbiz businessman-boyfriend). And then, barely a month after he split up late last year with Isabel Oli, Paolo announced that he has found a new love in the person of EB Babe Lian Paz (ex of Janno Gibbs and Mark Herras).
How does he do it?
“All my break-ups have been amicable,” said Paolo who’s the new endorser for Freego pants. “Walang away. Not cold turkey. My girl and I would talk heart-to-heart before we would decide to break up. No animosity. We never discuss our differences in public. Nalalaman lang ng mga tao kapag hiwalay na kami. And then sometimes, the new one would arrive early.”
Like Lian?
“Yes,” laughed Paolo. “She arrived much too early.”
They said that you have a “Sugar Daddy Complex.” You know, you buy and buy things for your girlfriend and that makes you a young Sugar Daddy daw.
“Well, I think I’m just generous, even sa friends ko. If I can afford it, why not? I enjoy giving, especially sa girlfriend ko; she deserves it.”
And they said that when you have a girlfriend, you promise her marriage, like in the case of Lian.
“Hindi naman totoo ‘yon.”
A hopeless romantic, Paolo does find time for love without sacrificing his work.
A GMA contract artist, he hosts the “amazing” show World Records (which will soon be back) and is a member of the cast of Bubble Gang. He’s hosting the new show My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad (which was initially offered to an A-list actor from a rival channel) and is playing a kontrabida in the GMA soap Ang Babaing Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang (with Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera).
Half-Italian, Paolo started in the business at age four. He’s turning 25 on March 14 (Pisces).
Did he have growing-up pains under the klieg lights?
“None at all. I never passed the so-called ‘awkward stage’ maybe because I grew up in the public eye, thanks to Aga (Muhlach) who didn’t let me leave (the ABS-CBN sitcom) Okidokidoc.”
