Angellie wishes upon a star

Angellie Urquico’s angelic features and sweet smile exude youthfulness and innocence.

The 16-year old Angellie was the grand champion on ABS-CBN’s Little Big Star Season 2 (2006). She impressed the judges and the audience with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s Run to You which was her winning piece. Angellie said she started singing when she was four years old. “My mom encouraged me to join singing contests so I could conquer my shyness.” She joined other competitions like Bulilit Singing Contest (2004), Sing Like a Star (2003), and Batang ETV (2002) where she also emerged champion.

The young singer also decided to embark on an acting career to explore her range as an artist. One of her most memorable performances was on the Diary episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya where she played Darlene, a young girl who was in love with Piolo Pascual. “After winning on Little Big Star, my former road manager informed me that there was an audition for an MMK episode starring Piolo Pascual. Luckily, I got the lead role opposite him.”

She also starred on Palos where she played the young Sylvia (Bangs Garcia’s character). Angellie learned a few stunt routines required for her role.

Angellie has just finished doing an indie film titled Ugat sa Lupa, a National Commission for Culture and the Arts project directed by Ariel Reyes.
