Judy Ann, Anita Linda tie for Best Actress in Gawad Tanglaw Awards
Indie films figure prominently in this year’s Gawad Tanglaw Awards.
Anita Linda (for Adela) and Judy Ann Santos (for Ploning) tied for Best Actress. The Best Actor award is shared by Baron Geisler for Jay and John Estrada for Caregiver, a “mainstream” film produced by Star Cinema. Emilio Garcia is Best Supporting Actor for Walang Kawala and Boots Anson-Roa is Best Supporting Actress for Lovebirds. Winners for Best Picture(s) are Ploning, Boses and 100, all indies.
Best Director is Brillante “Dante” Mendoza for, among other indies, Tirador, Masahista, Kaleldo, Foster Child, Manoro and Serbis.
Gawad Tanglaw (Gawad Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) will be held in March 2009. Gawad Tanglaw is composed of film critics, scholars, historians and professors of humanities. — Ricky Lo
