Welcome new year with Bittersweet Symphony

Bittersweet Symphony will perform today and on Dec. 30 and 31 at the Merk’s Bar Bistro in Greenbelt, Makati City.

Bittersweet Symphony is composed of lead singer Melinda Torre, guitarist Roger Pornobi and percussionist Julius Lopez.

Formed only last year, the band has graced private functions and music joints. Before getting together, the three had been with other acoustic and/or electric bands.

Torre and Lopez were members of the UP Vocal Ensemble from 2004 to 2008 while Pornobi is a rarity who can claim to have played and performed both in a church and a heavy metal band.

While regularly performing standards, pop and rhythm and blues, the three prefer jazz.

Merk’s Bar has been known to host both established stars and upcoming talents. It is owned by Richard Merk.
