Dancing with one’s feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another. Mia Lee, a Korean entrepreneur behind Mia, a restaurant bar dance café along Jupiter St. in Makati City makes sure anyone who visits her place will have both feet and heart on the dance floor.
“I love to dance,” offers Mia who was part of Korea’s recording and entertainment industry. “It keeps you fit and makes your life stress-free. Besides, I wanted to put up a place where everyone can dance and experience authentic salsa and Latin dance nights.”
This is what the Korean dance enthusiast showed when Mia, the resto-bar recently opened to the public. As expected Pinoys and Koreans trooped to the newest dance venue in the city. Cory Quirino, Becky Garcia and TV5’s Shall We Dance judge Edna Ledesma were there. Garcia, president and founder of the Philippine Dance Sport Council, led the ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Before the launch, guests showed their footwork and moves as ballroom dancers. Ladies brought their own dance instructors and danced way into the night. The gentlemen, on the other hand, had their partners to keep them company song after song.
The affair had the competitive ambiance and entertainment value of Shall We Dance?, Keep on Dancing, Dancing With The Stars and You Can Dance.
How did Mia come to being?
Mia says she wanted to come up with ballroom entertainment and fine wine and scrumptious cuisine to go with it. After wining and dining, one can take to the dance floor and sway and groove to the Latin, salsa, Argentine Tango and standard dance beats.
Mia is the perfect place to unwind after work and dance till you drop.
Mia is not only open in the evenings. It is also open from lunch to dinner. Everybody can enjoy gastronomic delights while watching Mia’s dance studio activities and rehearsals. The place has resident dance instructors and professional dancers to correct your two left feet.
There will also be local competitions and show events in the future. International champions and DJs will join the event.
Before dusk, Mia becomes a dance academy which offers classes to novice, intermediate and advanced students. And if you are short of budget but willing to learn salsa, you can avail of Mia’s free dance lessons every day.
