Asian Hospital goes WiFi

Asian Hospital and Medical Center bares its communications strategy through the launching of its new hospital-wide WiFi service and exterior Media Walls.

The event, attended by distinguished medical professionals, industry VIPs, the media and local government officials, is part of Asian Hospital’s efforts to expand its reach to the Filipinos and the rest of the world.

“We are expecting that with this information that we have way up in the system, we can do more activities in the market,” says AHMC CEO Theo Seiler.

The free WiFi access and Media Walls are part of the hospital’s expanding communications platform. Earlier this year, the country’s first e-hospital also revamped their corporate website (www.asianhospital.com), making it more user-friendly and updating information about Asian Hospital’s new medical services.

The country’s most innovative tertiary facility understands the growing dependency of people on information. As Dr. Jorge Garcia, AHMC founder and president, puts it, “Our patients now, they are very intelligent. If you talk to them with a certain medical condition, they have already looked at these problems on the Internet. So in a way, that helps us explain their current medical condition and reduce misunderstanding.”

“We do not only have patients in the hospital. We have visitors, family members and friends. Nowadays, everybody wants to be connected to the Internet, everywhere they are. And that is why we have the system, to give these people the possibility to have a bit of other activities in the hospital itself,” adds Seiler.

Internally, beefing up AHMC’s communications platform also contributes greatly to upgrading the service level of the hospital’s administration and management. From capturing patient data, to marketing and financial management, AHMC’s current information system translates to greater efficiency and better service.

As part of its plans, AHMC sees a more advanced information system in place. Something that will aid in the information flow within the hospital, between the doctors and patients, and for the general public. Dr. Garcia reveals, “Plans are on the way to get an information system that will serve both the medical practitioner and our patent. A system wherein I can access my patient’s information in the hospital or even outside through my own personal computer, laptop or cellphone.”

“Can you imagine if a doctor does not have to go to the laboratory? They don’t have to go to the X-ray Department to look at the X-ray. Or they can easily listen to the sound of an angiogram which will be readily available and easily accessible in their own personal devices. That will improve their efficiency because they will have more time to devote to their patient.”
