Kimball at The Podium

The Philippine Star

Lead vocalist Bobby Kimball of Toto will serenade the shoppers at The Podium with hits on Dec. 7, 2 p.m.

Founded in 1977 by some of the most popular and experienced musicians of the era, Toto enjoyed great commercial success in the ‘80s beginning with the band’s self-titled debut album released in 1978. Toto became one of the best-selling music groups of the era, and composed the theme for the film Dune.

Toto was known for its technical prowess in the studio and a musical style that combines elements of rock, pop, soul, funk, progressive rock, hard rock, R&B and jazz. Although the band is associated with soft rock, particularly the neo-progressive rock genres, the broad array of musical genres helps Toto appeal to a variety of musician and non-musician listeners.

The band has released 17 albums and has sold 30 million records to date. Its 18th release Falling in Between Live was released in March 2007 in Paris. As a result of guitarist Steve Lukather’s departure from the band, Toto broke up after the last leg of its 2008 tour.

Kimball was a founding member of the group, then left in 1984 after the massive success of Toto IV. He rejoined the group in 1998 and fronted the band until the members finally called it quits earlier this year.

He will perform Rosanna, Africa, I’ll be Over You, I Won’t Hold You Back and Gorgy Porgy.
