The master rapper and his wannabe

The Philippine Star

In Nescafé Iced Coffee’s latest TVC dubbed Palistuhan, comic Ramon Bautista engages in a not-so-usual rap showdown with Francis M.

Here, the master rapper is in his element, dishing rap with authority, while Bautista plays the wannabee master rapper.

Fresh from his stint in the Balagtas School of Rap, Bautista feels he is capable of dethroning the master.

Being a popular comedian in his own right, why did Bautista choose to invade the rap music scene?

“I see rap as the universal language of pag-aangas, of being proud of one’s abilities,” he shares. “That’s why being a rapper is the perfect fit for me. I have an abundance of talents that only a few people in the world possess.”

Bautista is also listo in his own way. He has a knack for witty and funny lines. His various interviews and TV shows are laden with gut-busting, howl-inducing funny lines that have endeared him to many.

Couple that humor with rap music that’s so appealing to today’s youth, and you’ve got a TVC that’s sure to be a hit. And who better to deliver the catchy and poetic rap lines than the master rapper himself?

“He’s actually one of my idols. So I was star-struck when I first saw him. I memorized his rap songs back in the early ‘90s,” says Bautista.

“The experience is even better in person,” Bautista adds. “When he opens his mouth, you’ll be taken aback by his skill and intensity. You can see his energy, and that he loves what he’s doing. He’s really a master rapper — one of a kind.”
