A job well done
One of the best compliments a man can ever get in his lifetime is recognition for a job well done. And the tandem of Cris Nicolas and Pocholo Malillin of Club Mwah has been getting just this from colleagues, tourists, critics and audiences who flock to the club. A few months ago, Pocholo was awarded one of the outstanding achievers of Pangasinan given by the Publishers Association of the Philippines and Diwa, Salita, at Gawa magazine. Pocholo was cited for being a “creative entertainment trendsetter.” He was one of the 15 awardees that included Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz, Jose de Venecia III, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III among others.
“I feel so proud of this award. This will serve as an inspiration for me to further improve the quality of shows at Club Mwah,” says Pocholo.
Club Mwah has been attracting droves of balikbayans, local tourists, movie stars, socialites, politicians to its Bedazzled shows, the latest of which is Bedazzled 8 which will open this May. The Bedazzled shows are creations of Cris Nicolas who was called a “genius” by PR man Reli German after watching Bedazzled 6.
Says Reli, “The show Bedazzled 6 was truly amazing. Cris is a genius who made the ordinary extraordinary. It was some sort of an Asian celebration — there was a number from Thailand, a Korean flower festival dance, and a spoof of Ms. Saigon.”
The Bedazzled presentation is performed by Club Mwah’s resident artists called Follies de Mwah. Follies de Mwah delivered a rousing performance at Marco Polo Hotel in Cebu last February. The 24-member ensemble performed with outstanding costumes, make–up, wigs as well as spectacular sets making the whole experience unbelievably amazing. It was a well-attended event with Cebu’s crème de la crème in attendance during the first night and the general public who came in full force during the second night.
In a letter sent to Pocholo and Cris, Hans Hauri of Marco Polo Hotel Cebu wrote: “We are still on cloud 9 since the fabulous Follies de Mwah mesmerized us with two performances here in Cebu. We have been receiving compliments and people are still talking about it and are asking for an encore. The audience knew how much hard work you have put into your show. We witnessed first hand the 150 percent effort your artists displayed and how they conquered an unfamiliar stage.”
Hans further wrote that Club Mwah will be featured on the Hall of Fame Events on the second floor of the hotel.
Club Mwah has raised the benchmark of what a spellbinding show is. Bedazzled 6 and 7 are drawing crowds from all walks of life. Former President Cory Aquino, Susan Roces, Charo Santos, German Moreno, Pilita Corrales, Vina Morales, Aga Muhlach, Ogie Alcasid, Dina Bonnevie, Carmi Martin, Edu Manzano, Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando, Sen. Bong Revilla, Giselle Sanchez, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Richard Gomez, Senators Mar Roxas, Manny Villar, Ping Lacson, Ces Drilon and Korina Sanchez were among those who have witnessed the spectacular performances at Club Mwah.
“We don’t sacrifice the show’s quality and authenticity for the sake of cost cutting. We feel it is our commitment to give our patrons only the best,” says Pocholo. Club Mwah is ready to present Bedazzled 8 this May. The repertoire includes a parody of the controversial and headline- hogging Paris Hilton as she lands right on stage aboard a jetliner complete with a retinue of close-in security and a personal assistant; a Christina Aguilera dance segment, a Man From La Mancha spoof, an Indian dance featuring Lady Buddha Sheba with 16 hands and many more.
Bedazzled 6 is still showing every Wednesday and Thursday while Bedazzled 7 is seen every Friday and Saturday. For reservations call 5322826/5357943 or email [email protected] or visit 3rd Flr., the Venue Tower, 652 Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong City or visit www.clubmwah.com.
