Singapore wins Amazing Race Asia 2

The Philippine Star

Singapore — The Chinese Gardens of the Lion City was the final pit stop of the race. Collin Low and Adrian Yap of Singapore wasted no time to reach it and step on the mat to become the winners of AXN’s The Amazing Race Asia Season Two.

Collin and Adrian ’s win made them instant celebrities here and also in the region. They also went home with the grand prize of $100,000.

Sisters Vanessa and Pamela Chong of Malaysia came in second, while favorites Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez of the Philippines placed third. Marc and Rovilson’s placement was a victory in itself compared to country’s ninth and 10th ranking last year courtesy of Aubrey Miles and Jacqueline Yu and Ernie and Jeena Lopez, respectively.

Coming first in eight of the 12 pit stops made Marc and Rovilson winners in their own right. They won two Standard Chartered Bank credit cards worth $5,000 each member, a one-year fuel supply from Caltex, Sony handy cameras and a safari trip to South Africa.

Terri and Henry Reed, the other team from the Philippines in season two, placed sixth overall.

Among the 10 teams, the tandem of Collin and Adrian was the most unlikely to win the race given Adrian’s hearing disability. But they surprised televiewers when they placed second in the Philippines-China-New Zealand leg and became the consistent No. 2 team to beat.  But what shocked everybody was when Collin and Adrian took the lead from Marc and Rovilson in the Czech Republic-Hungary race. Since then, Collin and Adrian became the dark horse of The Amazing Race Asia 2.  With their smartness and competitiveness,Marc and Rovilson made the road to victory for Collin and Adrian a tough one. But Adrian’s knowledge on flags worked to his team’s advantage in the last roadblock. In this challenge, one team member grabbed the flags of the 10 countries they visited and arranged them according to their visits. This gave the Singaporeans a comfortable lead in the race.

Information provided by Caltex, one of the major sponsors of The Amazing Race Asia 2, says  Collin and Adrian’s strategy is to rely on teamwork and use ethical ways to win. These paid their dues in the race.

Collin and Adrian’s surprise win was a testament that all is fair on The Amazing Race Asia . At the end of the day, mental prowess still surpasses physical ability.
