The rain effect

SIZZLING HOT - Juliana Palermo -

“Rain, rain go away, please come back another day,” were the lines we used to sing at school every time it rained.

It was not fun at all waking up early to get to school on-time and spend the day there while it rained.

I absolutely don’t like it.

I guess it’s true that, as days go by and we experience new things, we also learn to appreciate more and more things that come our way.

Rain exaggerates my emotions. It’s either I’m really bored or really comfortable.

A couple of years back, I traveled to Sta. Elena, Camarines Sur for a guesting. It was raining non-stop, and so we slept all the way through the long drive.

As soon as we got there, I saw kids and adults playing in the rain, and so I decided to join them.

I quickly went to our room and changed into something more comfortable, then went out in the rain with the kids. It was unforgettable, an amazing experience for me. I felt like a kid again!

Sometimes, it’s nice to do “not-so-normal” things and just let the kid in us come out. This isn’t like something we could do on a regular basis, but it certainly was one happy day for me.

What’s more fun to do is just staying in bed when it’s pouring outside and spending quality time with those close to our hearts.

I asked some celebrities what they normally do when it’s rainy season and how it affects their schedule.

Sharon Cuneta: “When I have to work (sadly), nothing changes even if it’s raining! Unless of course, say, a shoot requires sunlight or outdoors. But my favorite thing to do when it rains is stay in bed, snuggled under a thick blanket and duvet with lots of soft pillows!

“I love staying at home to read, watch DVDs, whatever I can do when there’s some peace and quiet and I hear only the gentle tapping of raindrops on the roof. I love it when it rains!

“Just not so hard that it causes our kababayan pain and loss. News footage of flooded areas or much worse — landslides, etc. — resulting deaths or injuries just breaks  my heart.

“Pleasant rain that’s just right is the kind I believe we all love! Somehow, rain makes my bed seem more inviting and not just for sleeping! (Ha, ha, ha!) Rain also allows me some very precious time spent with my girls.”

Mariel Rodriguez: “I always get caught in traffic when it rains so it’s a hassle for me, but I enjoy staying at home, making sure the air-con is on extra cold then just curl up in bed.”

Gwen Garci: “When it rains, I like to just stay at home to watch DVD movies, eat danggit, sleep and do other fun things.”

Cassandra Ponti: “What I love most about the rainy season is that I get to eat my favorite binignit with hot choco. I just hate the traffic that causes accidents and sometimes, tapings get delayed.”

Diana Zubiri: “Work doesn’t stop for me even when it rains. Taping goes on. Everyone just seems to be more relaxed. That makes taping move a little slower. I enjoy staying at home just watching DVD movies and eating good food.

IC Mendoza: “The rain doesn’t affect my agenda at all. I love going out in the rain because I have an excuse to wear fur coats, scarves and turtle-necks without my friends making fun of my style.”

Jen Rosendahl: “I like to spend the day in bed, then take hot baths or get a good cup of tea and just chatting with friends.”

The common denominator is staying in bed and watching DVDs. It is much safer and even more relaxing to just stay indoors and enjoy your family’s company on rainy days.

This is also the best time to update your movie chart. It’s always good to purchase DVD films and just stack them up for days like these.

I saw Rush Hour 3 with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. If the weather is making you feel a little blue and you’d like an hour of laughter, Rush Hour 3 is a good pick.

Smile and have a wonderful day! You may get in touch with me at www.forum.juliana-palermo.net or [email protected].
