He wears his heart on his sleeve

When you say opposites attract, you think of yin and yang, male and female, and Troy Montero and Aubrey Miles. He is serious, quiet, prone only to occasional smiles and cryptic replies. She’s bubbly, playful and more open about her life.

Five years younger than Troy, Aubrey is adamant in her ways and the former doesn’t mind bending backwards for his ladylove. He’s the first to say sorry when they have a misunderstanding – all petty so far.

In return, she doesn’t mind lying low in her career and attending to his needs and wants instead.

Theirs is beautiful music that has lasted three years and still counting. And by next year, Troy hopes to take Aubrey as his wife in a wedding by the beach in Palawan, with the setting sun and a few close guests as witnesses.

The beach wedding will be very Troy and Aubrey. Nature lovers both, they enjoy frolicking in the beach and playing with the waves together.

They will raise their family in the Philippines, not in the US, where Troy and younger brother KC’s parents are based.

"I like the way Filipinos raise their kids. They are more disciplined," explains Troy.

They’re also more advanced academically.

"I was observing KC teach Heaven (son of Geneva Cruz, KC’s long-time girlfriend) his assignments and I went, `Wow, he’s already studying that! It’s so advanced. And the boy is only eight!’ I wasn’t like that when I was his age," Troy goes on.

Their future kids?

"As many as she can handle," Troy grins.

After all, he can afford to give his future family the good life. His parents have already told Troy and KC they will take over the family’s real estate business someday. For starters, their grandparents are already giving the brothers a fixed amount of money from the fruits of their lucrative business.

Aubrey can just concentrate on looking after Troy and their future children. But if she wants to, Troy promises he won’t stop her from doing what she wants to do, like continuing a career she has decided to put on hold.

The guy wears his heart on his sleeve.

"I don’t treat our relationship like an old one. I keep it fresh and young. I don’t look at it as part of the daily grind. And we give each other space to grow," Troy explains how he has kept the fire burning all these years.

Besides nature, Troy and Aubrey share a passion for fitness and adventure. They go to the gym and go wall climbing and boxing together.

Aubrey would visit Troy on the set of his seventh movie, Binibining K, with Keanna Reeves in the title role. Reality Entertainment’s romantic comedy casts Troy as Keanna’s boss. Her simple but winning ways capture the hearts, not only of Troy, but of Keanna’s co-workers as well. But there’s a fly in the ointment. A scheming businessman (Jojo Alejar) thwarts Keanna’s plan as she reaches the top of the corporate ladder.

Troy plans to continue the career momentum after Binibining K’s release in local theaters starting Sept. 13. (A red carpet premiere is set tonight at SM Megamall Cinema 10.)

"I plan to direct a TV commercial with Erik Matti (who also wrote the story of Binibining K) and a couple of music videos, too," Troy reveals. "I just hope they accept my treatment of the project."

With Aubrey by his side, Troy Montero feels like Superman: he can do just about anything and everything under the sun.
