The (only) woman in Piolo’s life

Mother knows best. In some cases, however, it’s the other way around. Piolo Pascual knew even then that his mom, Amy Pascual, could play a role on TV, or do a commercial the very least.

His "intuition"recently proved to be true.

Amy Pascual is the mother feted in Selecta’s latest TV commercial. Amy is Piolo’s on cam and off cam mother. It seems that she’s the only woman in his life.

The statement may send many a young lady in tears. After all, Piolo is still one of tinseltown’s few desirable and eligible bachelors.

The commercial is the first TV project Piolo and his mom have done as mother-son tandem.

But of course, they have shared countless – triumphs and defeats – away from the klieg lights.

Piolo recalls that it took a lot of persuasion on his part to get the nod of his mom, who is non-showbiz but has celebrity friends, one of them being Connie Reyes.

When Piolo brought up the idea that his local agent wishes to cast mother and son in a commercial, Mommy Amy thought her son was just kidding her. She relates that Piolo phoned her and hurriedly asked her to buy a ticket bound for Manila for some picture taking. Although everything was still unclear to her – whether it was just a picture taking or pictorial, the obedient mom gave in to her son’s request. She packed her things, went to the airport, and traveled for 17 hours. Piolo’s wish was granted.

Mommy Amy had her first taste of acting in a workshop given to her before the shooting. She learned the "ins and outs" of acting and the role she was going to play. Though the character is very close to her heart, she had her share of first-time jitters.

Mommy Amy admits she was nervous during the shoot. But Piolo said he didn’t notice it when the camera started to grind. Her acting was so natural, Piolo praises his mom’s performance.

After experiencing how it is to be on the spotlight, Mommy Amy is mum on the possibility of doing a TV show or soap opera. If ever she does, her presence will be a welcome treat to televiewers, especially moms like her.

Asked if Mommy Amy is a true-blue Selecta lover, Piolo replies his mom even looks for the ice cream brand even if she’s in the US. Selecta is part of every occasion in the Pascual household.

Watching them in the TVC and during the presscon, the two never showed any sign of showbusiness and doing things as a put-on. They are genuinely close to each other and true to what they believe in, particularly in the choice of ice cream.

In endorsing Selecta, Piolo joins an elite group composed of Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach.
