Summertime & the living is easy
March 19, 2006 | 12:00am
In other countries, four seasons make up one whole year. Each one of us has our favorite times of the year.
Holidays and special occasions, however, create special memories that we gather every so often. But nothing is really consistent in this world, or should I say, in our life.
Even the seasons dont always come as expected. Theyre basically just big overviews of what we should roughly expect the coming days.
I know this may sound a bit weird, but Ive just realized the only things you can really count on are the moon and the sun.
Theyre as simple as rising in the morning and hiding at night. Think about it. Is there really anything else that you know is coming and never ever fails to come? Well, besides day and night, of course.
Everything just sort of happens and changes each minute that passes by. Even the meaning of life changes every minute.
As far as seasons go, its accurate, but not quite. There are storms and all kinds of things sometimes delay these events.
Summer has always been my favorite time of the year. It used to be because of the vacations back when I was still studying in Davao. But since the school schedules shift in the States, Ive learned to just enjoy it even while studying.
I love it when its hot because I enjoy being in the sun. Ive liked being in the sun ever since I was a child.
I enjoyed it so much that a lot of kids would make fun of me because I was always dark-complexioned.
But it never really mattered. The heat just feels so good. I love it.
Being off from school for those couple of months had a lot to do with it. I honestly thought the word "summer" meant "school vacation," back then.
When I moved to the States, I realized summer meant "hot and sunny" days. You couldnt possibly miss the change in weather.
When its winter, its freezing, and when its summer, its hot. That was when I barely learned to distinguish both.
All the while, I never really considered this country to have much of a difference as seasons shift.
It always seems like its summertime everyday! Thats why I love it. Its always nice to wear clothes that show a bit of skin rather than being all wrapped up in a jacket to stay warm.
Its so much more comfortable that way. Ive been here for quite some time now, and since Holy Week falls during the summer, it seems like Ive always been the only one staying home for this event.
Im not quite sure as to what exactly is the correct or original way to observe Holy Week. But these days, going out of town is definitely the first thing on everyones mind.
Its become like a good excuse to travel. For the last four years that Ive been here, Ive always enjoyed staying home for Holy Week more than anything else.
Ive never gone out of town or done anything really special for this occasion. Its so nice to just stay home, pray, contemplate on things, relax, and drive around with no traffic for the whole week while everyone is somewhere else.
Ive already started working out again at Golds Gym so I can be fit for whatever event this summer may bring me.
I suggest that you too start getting fit for this summer so you can flaunt your stuff at the beach or maybe at the poolside.
I recently found out that Kaleldo, the film we shot in Pampanga, will be showing this June. Its ironic how the word kaleldo means summertime, but the movie is actually going to be shown during the rainy season.
I guess this means our film will keep you warm this coming rainy season, so watch out for it. It will definitely remind you right before the showing.
By the way, Ive mentioned last week that Ive become part of Laugh to Laugh, a TV show on QTV 11. Its so sad to realize I dont have QTV 11 in my Dream Cable.
I also tried to catch our show on Sky Cable, but unfortunately, the signal was so bad. Im really hoping to get a clear reception of QTV 11 in my place in San Juan whether on Dream or even Sky Cable.
Have a great Sunday!
