Soul Ties: A Tribute To Love, R&B And All That Jazz
February 7, 2006 | 12:00am
There are veritable musical gems in the local music industry whom you see oftentimes by chance and in bars the names and addresses of which you rarely recall. But exceptional voices and performances linger and repeat in your head, this time like an unbroken record. Such are the artistries we find in four performers: Lana J., Robbie, Julianne and Gail Blanco who are no doubt world-class acts. Intuition Creative Marketing got these artists (who are incidentally good friends) from their respective circle of fans, gig network and genre and put them in ONE SHOW where everybody can get a taste of R&B-Soul-Jazz heaven in all their different textures and flavors.
On February 8, 2006, urban denizens have the chance to witness this novel pre-valentine show in Bagaberde Pasig. Dubbed "SOUL-TIES: A Tribute to Love, R&B and all that Jazz", the show features R&B/Soul artists-to-watch this 2006. All four main performers have garnered respectable names in the gig circuit particularly in the R&B and Soul-Jazz circles and will all be launching their respective singles/album by 2006. Intuition Creative Marketing was logically enthralled by the versatility and vocal potency of Lana (Eat Bulaga mainstay, Honk!, Dreamgirls! Rent Philippines & Singapore), Robbie (former Wiseguys, Awit Awards Best New Artist Nominee 2000, Metropop Song Fest 2000), Julianne (Grand Prize Nescafe Dewired 2003, Awit Awards Best New Group Nominee with band Cruxada 2004) and Gail (Female vocalist of Prime Council with Jed Madela, back-up for MYMP & Rico-Basil concert, voice behind Milo, Nesvita, Skinwhite, Nescafe, GMA-7 Kapuso 55 years jingles) hence, the birth of SOUL TIES.
To make it truly a family affair, the show will also be graced by family and friends in the soul industry like Jeffrey and Arnee Hidalgo, Jam of Wiseguys, Akafellas, Joaquin Valdes and Gian Magdangal (both formerly of 17:28) including alternative rock band Michaelangelo, and many more top acts in the country today. This event is co-presented by PLDT Budget Card. Event partners also include 1Cubed, Wave 89.1, Jam 88.3 and host venue Bagaberde.
Traditionally, concert producers often come up with shows of solo artists after they become renowned; they lumped them as a trio or quartet and declare them legends. This time, the Soul Ties producers are reversing the process. They're mounting a show for artists whose popularity are inevitable and whose time to shine starts now.
Although set in an intimate bar milieu, Soul Ties is positioned as a distinctively R&B-Soul-Jazz mini-concert with the trappings of an energetic, high-adrenaline, emotionally-charged major musical event. And with IJ Garcia (17:28, Footloose musicale, Christian Bautista shows) as the the man behind the music and four vocally engaging up-and-coming artists, Soul Ties promises to be an indelible musical experience this valentine season.
