Chx is for real

- Leah C. Salterio -
After 62 days inside the Pinoy Big Brother house, sexy and liberated Chx Alcala became the fourth official evictee of ABS-CBN’s hit reality TV show. She now joins ramp model Rico Barrera, rich kid JB Magsaysay and school teacher Racquel Reyes, who were earlier booted out from the house, as well as Bob de la Cruz, who was forced to quit due to health reasons.

Even before her name was announced, 24-year-old Chx confessed she was ready to leave the Pinoy Big Brother house. In fact, when the housemates were designing the backpack for the evictee that week, Chx already claimed the backpack to be hers.

Although she didn’t end up as the winner, Chx was nonetheless thankful for her Pinoy Big Brother experience. "I wanted to do something with my life and by being inside Pinoy Big Brother house for 62 days, I was able to prove something," Chx said.

The erstwhile ramp model didn’t go home empty-handed. She received a Norkis Yamaha motorcycle, a Promac entertainment and lifestyle showcase and gift packs from Hammerhead and Star Records.

The much-ballyhooed moment before Chx exited from the house was the tight hug and smack she gave to fellow housemate, 21-year-old Sam Milby. Both became very close prior to being nominated. Chx even promised Sam she would wait for him once he gets out of the house. "I intend to fulfill that promise," Chx said.

Chx’s life story is soap opera material. Coming from a broken family, she was exposed to the realities of life at an early age. At 12, she and her younger sister shuttled from one house to another; sharing household with their parents’ new partners.

At 19, Chx decided to go solo, rented a boarding house and started to earn a living. She did freelance modeling, appeared in bit roles on TV and spent for her younger sister’s schooling.

Articulate in English, Chx wanted to take up Mass Communications but ended up with a degree in computer. Being independent, she’s liberated, straightforward and is highly opinionated.

To Pinoy Big Brother fanatics, Chx is known for her famous line, "Is that for real?" That’s why when her fellow evicted housemate Racquel was asked what she can say after seeing Chx outside the Pinoy Big Brother house, Racquel simply blurted out, "Is that for real?"

Chx admits she is aware that people perceive her as somebody who is flirt and liberated. Her controversial kissing scene with Sam during their Hawaiian luau party caused the one-day suspension of Pinoy Big Brother, from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

"I know how people look at me," Chx said. "I’m really liberated. I do what I want and I say what I want. Maybe I will even be surprised when somebody says I’m conservative."

Facing the press following her eviction, Chx didn’t skirt any question. She remains unruffled even when she was asked about her revealing photos circulating in the web. She unabashedly admits she is really the girl in the photos, although they were not taken inside the Pinoy Big Brother house. The shots were taken by her boyfriend, Love Thadani, in her old phone which was stolen last year.

"I’m puzzled how those photos got around, since that phone was encrypted with special software," Chx clarified. "I’ve talked to my boyfriend about it and he denied that the photos came from him. The controversy has affected my family and they were so ashamed of what happened, that’s why I feel bad. But I’m strong. I want people to know they can’t put me down even if they attempt to destroy me."

With her stint in Pinoy Big Brother now over, Chx is ready to face life anew. Her showbiz salvo has apparently commenced, as her calendar is filled up with guestings in ABS-CBN shows until December. She admits that she really wants to try it out in showbiz and is bent on proving to everyone that aside from being sexy, she has talent, too.
