The Boyz are back

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -
Just when you thought you’ve seen the last of them, well, they’re back. Boyz II Men, — the boys who jumpstarted the R&B craze all over the world — planed in last Wednesday night (9:40 p.m. Manila time) via Japan Airlines’ flight number 745 for another rocking concert at the PSC Ultra tonight.

With a new brand of music in town, Nathan Morris, Shawn Sockman, and Wanya Morris are out to prove once again that they are the boys who still rule the R&B kingdom. Expect PSC-Ultra in Pasig to groove with their performance.

The boys even have a new album to promote — Throwback — a testament to their crusade of greatness as the trio gives faultless reinterpretations to soulful oldies-but-goodies.

Nathan, Shawn and Wanya will sing fresh renditions of hit ballads like Michael Jackson’s Human Nature, the Isley Brothers’ For the Love of You, and an a cappella rendition of DeBarge’s Time Will Reveal.

Their brief hiatus and the departure of Michael "Bass" McCary did not let the boys down. Although the industry changed so much, these boys are still bent on making a crack at a predominantly hip-hop-dominated industry.

Back in February 2004, Boyz II Men conquered Manila for the first time, giving the Pinoy crowd a taste of the ballads and the songs that propelled the Boyz to a dizzying high. Along the way, they also dished out a lot of up-tempos that got the crowd asking for more.

The Boyz have only been in the music scene since 1991, but already they have sold million of LPs and spent 29 weeks at the top of the charts with six No. 1 hits.

Their beautiful harmonies, casual style and endearing personalities have made them extremely successful over the past 14 years.
The taste lingers on
Quaint scenery at the heart of the city…a soothing ambiance that inspires and a wide array of delectable cuisine that can only be found in one of the Manila’s premium deli-cum-restaurant — Blue Bacon and Green Eggs … where the simple and not so simple constantly return to have a taste of its one-of-a-kind carte du jour. This is one of my favorite restaurants.

I just can’t seem to get enough of their Italian-Mediterranean and Euro-Asian fusion dishes like its Mixed Satay (Chicken, Prawn, Beef and Pork) with Steamed Pandan Rice with a special peanut sauce that is to-die-for and a siding of asparagus tips, carrots and broccoli.

Also a must-have is the deliciously spicy Chili Pasta with Prawns and Lime Sauce that will surely set your heart on fire! You should also try its yummy Japanese Risotto made of Japanese rice and shiitake mushrooms, the Grilled Marinated Lamb Chops, the Seared Marinated Norwegian Salmon Escalope with Caviar and Chives, the Baked Chilean Sea Bass Stuffed with Three Kinds of Cheese and Spinach, and its mouth-watering US Angus Rib Eye with Shiitake Fricassee.

The menu alone speaks for itself. No wonder clients keep coming back for more — making Blue Bacon and Green Eggs a success for nearly ten years now. And its clientele is loyal. On an ordinary day, an award-winning director would be in one table while a young movie star and his friends would be in one corner. Sometimes, it’s so star-studded you would think there’s a huge entertainment press-con happening. But even during these times, Blue Bacon and Green Eggs doesn’t lose its distinct stance.

Proud owners Mike Prado and Boyd Deriquito, however, are tirelessly introducing new entrees every once in a while to keep their patrons’ zest. They reinvent classic tastes into contemporary cooking, starting from the appetizing gourmet to prepared meats, dairy products, herbs and spices, cereals and pasta, wine and beverages, relishes and sauces, cakes and snacks.

Says Mike, "The food is great, the taste lingers, and you won’t be able to help but talk about them!"

Blue Bacon and Green Eggs does not compromise the quality of the food it serves. "We neither scrimp nor compromise on quality. And we don’t use substitutes. If a certain ingredient is lacking, we do not serve that particular dish," Mike assures.

But more than the food, what draws people to Blue Bacon and Green Eggs is its unique and inviting ambiance — the home and garden décor, the furniture accessories — which embraces guests with a cozy and warm honey feeling. I am especially drawn to the art pieces which elegantly fill the walls, made more dramatic by the use of natural and artificial lighting.

Blue Bacon and Green Eggs has come a long way since it opened in 1995. From being a 36-seater, the restaurant has expanded to its present 300-dining capacity.

If you happen to be somewhere in the Cubao area, why don’t you check out Blue Bacon and Green Eggs, located at 27 Lantana cor. Boston St., Cubao, Quezon City and know what I’m talking about. You may also call 726-8054.
