"The industry is on a slump," he told Funfare. "This might be a bad time to produce a movie but then, why not? Maybe the moviegoing public just wants something new, something different."
Derek’s comeback vehicle as actor-producer is Rumble Boyz which he’s producing for Apache Films, directed by Ronnie Ricketts. His last movie was Baby Tsino, shown five years ago.
Rumble Boyz is the story of a Filipino and a French lady brought together by tragedy: Both their fathers have been murdered. Together, they search for the culprits who happen to be members of renegades from a motorcycle club known as the Rumble Boyz.
The "something new, something different" Derek is referring to is the new kind of special-effects technology used in the action scenes, computerized by a team Derek himself has organized.
The other "something new, something different" is the girl being introduced in Rumble Boyz as Derek’s leading lady. She’s none other than Slovakian international model Kyle Cole (real name: Martina Jacova) who bears a striking resemblance (especially her "long-legged") to Melanie Marquez. Standing 5’9", weighing 115 lbs. and measuring 36-24-35, 26-year-old Kyle was discovered by Derek through the Internet. She has a string of beauty titles to her name (1999 Miss Monticello Raceway in New York; 2000 Miss Hawaiian Tropic of West Palm Beach in Florida and 2001 Miss Wet Shirt, Radio Kiss Morava) and was the first Slovakian to appear as Pet of the Month in Penthouse (US edition, March 2000). She was also part of the 2000 Olympic Games shoot for Playboy.
The soft-spoken and secretive Derek didn’t say who Kyle Cole is in his life. But a Funfare DPA said that she’s his new girl. No wonder they were exchanging meaningful glances during this interview.
Asked what her memorable experience was on the Rumble Boyz set, Kyle broke into a wide smile. "I was raped, I made love and I jumped from the roof, all in one day. It was a hectic shooting day but it was fun."
Needless to say, Kyle and Derek have a sizzling bathroom love scene where she was totally nude.
"Derek was gentle throughout that scene," said Kyle who has been here for a month. "He was tender and romantic."
Will wedding bells ring for them soon?
Derek simply ignored the question.
