Search for Star in a Million begins

-
A singing star search in the Philippines has never looked this good. It’s colorful. It’s hip. It’s young, funky and fast. That’s what you get when you combine two of the most successful, most formidable star-making giants in the country to come up with one grand production.

From ABS-CBN’s Star in a Million, the show that has produced new generation singing superstars, Erik Santos, Sheryn Regis, Marinel Santos, Johann Escanan, Frenchie Dy, Michael Cruz and Christian Bautista, and Viva Entertainment’s Search for a Star (formerly Star for a Night), that has created phenomenal Pinoy singing idols Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Raymond Manalo and Mark Bautista, comes a fusion — Search for the Star in a Million. It’s the biggest, boldest, brightest singing star search in Philippine television history.

Hosted by four of the country’s hottest, most sought-after singing superstars Sarah, Erik, Christian, and Mark, all of whom are singing contest champions themselves, this search is looking for the next multi-media, singing super sensation. The show is pulling all the stops to ensure that the grand champion will be someone who not only has the voice, but who sports that elusive all-important X-factor.

And what awaits the chosen Star in a Million? Nothing less than P5-M worth of cash and prizes which includes a house and lot, a contract with Star Records, and a sure spot in ABS-CBN’s ASAP Mania.

No wonder lines were endless during the auditions held over the country. From the thousands who tried out from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, a shortlist of 111 were chosen. The 111 were trimmed down to 30. The 30 were grouped into three batches (Star Batch 1, Star Batch 2 and Star Batch 3) by drawing lots, and three elimination rounds were held to determine the top three from each group. All together these nine winners from each group won slots in the show’s Champions League of Ten. Only one more was needed to complete the league.

All Top 10 scorers of the 21 eliminated from the top 30 became eligible for the wildcard competition. Here, the winner would complete the last remaining slot in the Champions League of Ten. However, during the wildcard round, a surprise announcement was made. Not only one but three Wildcard Searchees were given the chance to join the grand finals round or what is now popularly known as The Champions’ League of Twelve.

To produce a well-rounded singing superstar, members of this league have been undergoing rigorous vocal training and have been doing workshops in fashion, personality development, hosting, acting, and dancing, under experts in their respective fields. The audience has been part of their journey to ultimate fame as they get to peek and eavesdrop into their emotional and physical transformation via The Road to Stardom, The Search for the Star in a Million’s daily reality show component. (Mondays to Fridays, 6 p.m.)

Now, The Champions’ League of Twelve is hard at work preparing for their grand presentation night on March 6 at the Aliw Theater. This free show will look and feel like a concert as Search for the Star in a Million promises to be the very first concert-contest. The grand presentation night will be a musical extravaganza with the biggest singers in the country to help usher the Champions’ League of Twelve into the music industry.
