ABS-CBN stars add glitter to Davaos Kadayawan
August 21, 2004 | 12:00am
After inspiring the viewers with the lively Kadayawan music video launched last Aug. 15, ABS-CBN gears up to make history with its extensive, multi-platform coverage of Davaos 19th Kadayawan Festival. The grateful and impressed Davao natives can hardly contain their excitement as ABS-CBN brings the celebration to the Filipinos all over the archipelago, and to our kababayans abroad through the Regional Network Group (RNG), Studio 23, and The Filipino Channel (TFC).
With its technical superiority, ABS-CBN is the only network that can showcase the citys heritage to the world. "We are really thankful," says Ian Garcia, an ABS-CBN TV4-Davao talent. "ABS-CBNs efforts will dissociate Davao from its negative portrayal in the pastand that is what we all want."
Manila talents are equally excited to play their roles in this grand coverage. Angel Aquino, Vhong Navarro, Danilo Barrios, Juddha Paolo, and Alex Santos and Aladdin Bacolodan of TV Patrol are all set to host Studio 23s own program for the festival today (9 to 11 a.m.). Some of the guest performers are Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz, Animé, Aiza Marquez, Angelene Aguilar, Jill Yulo, Joey Ayala, Tuesday Vargas, Chokoleit, Rivermaya, and Margie Moran. Studio 23s program will also have a call in promo wherein viewers can win instant premium prizes by answering simple questions on the stations programming.
Another festival highlight came from MOR (My Only Radio), the FM station of RNG which staged yesterday a free MOR Tsinelas Party at the PTA Grounds, featuring Rivermaya and various top local artists. The party was part of MORs third anniversary concert series, with the tsinelas theme representing the FM stations appeal to audiences of all ages and classes, just like how a pair of slippers has become a part of every Filipinos daily checklist.
Participants and supporters are psyched to surpass the tremendous success of last years Kadayawan, wherein 84 floral floats adorned the streets in the parade, and 43 troops danced their way to the major city thoroughfares in the twelve-hour street dancing Indak Indak sa dalan.
The street dancing and the rest of the striking activities today will be aired live on DXAB 1296 Radyo Patrol (7a.m.), MOR 101.1 (7 a.m.), ABS CBN Davao (8 a.m.), and nationwide through Studio 23 (9 to 11 a.m). Our kababayans abroad may witness the spectacles today and tomorrow through TFC Directs Pinoycentral TV (Pacific: 5 p.m.; Milan: 2 a.m.; Saudi: 3 a.m.) and Pinoycentral TV hook-up (8 a.m. to 12 noon.)
The regions top variety shows SBD (Sayabadabadabado) Jam, Halo-Halo Special and Mindanao will have a post-festival feature and a Kadayawan special every weekend up to Aug. 28.
