A platinum for Christian

Fresh from the phenomenal success of the first single from his self-titled debut album, Christian Bautista releases his second single, Hands To Heaven to an eager public which seems to be hanging on to every word from the 22-year-old pop star. Only weeks after its release, the album shot up to the top spot in pop radio stations and music channels.

A remake of the classic Senti song from the ’90s band, Breathe, Hands To Heaven is a soothing journey into the mind and heart. It is filled with heartfelt lyrics and is one of the most easily recognizable and memorable tunes in pop music.

The music video, too, is a remarkable piece. It tackles the familiar territory of telenovelas by parodying the too romantic tale of the mermaid and shipwrecked sailor. In it, Bautista portrays a drowning man saved by a woman he eventually falls in love with. Their relationship blossoms only for him to find out that they cannot be together because she happens to be a mermaid. Perhaps the very first video-novela of its time, it has nonetheless scored big with critics and fans alike. It is a chart topper in music channel countdowns, MYX Hit Chart and MTV Diyes.

Christian first gained nationwide attention for his self-titled debut album with the single, The Way You Look at Me, which reached the top spot in radio stations’ playlists as well as in MYX and MTV almost as soon as it was released. With this second single, it seems he will surpass what he first started. Hands to Heaven remains steady on the top spots of pop radio stations and music channels and doesn’t show signs of climbing down any time soon.

One of the fastest-selling albums by a local artist to date, Christian Bautista sold 30,000 copies, jumping from gold record to platinum album in a matter of weeks. His debut album has sold over 30,000 copies nationwide and the number keeps on growing.

Christian recently performed in his first major concert, The Way You Look at Me at Onstage at Greenbelt to a jam-packed crowd.
