Lea returns to RP to do musical

Lea Salonga returns to Philippine Musical Theater stage in Atlantis Productions’ staging of the hit Broadway musical Baby.

Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire’s musical Baby, about three couples whose lives are affected in various ways by the prospect of having (or not having) a baby will mark Lea’s return to the musical theater stage after almost four years, having last performed in a musical in Manila in Miss Saigon in 2000.

Baby the Musical tells the heartwarming story of three couples on a university campus as they deal with the painful, rewarding and agonizingly funny consequences of the universal experience of "parenthood." There are the college students, barely at the beginning of their adult lives; the thirtysomethings, having trouble conceiving but determined to try and the middle-aged parents, looking forward to seeing their last child graduate from college when a night of unexpected passion lands them back where they started. Baby was nominated for seven Tony Awards and has lyrics written by Richard Maltby Jr. (who also co-wrote Miss Saigon with Alain Boulbil), music by David Shire and book by Sybille Pearson. Baby the Musical will be directed by Bobby Garcia, musical direction by Gerard Salonga, set design by Mio Infante, choreography by Andy Alviz, sound design by Bobbit Jacinto and lighting design by Gerry Fernandez. It will run in the Meralco Theater in August.
