EMI Phils. announces Kylas Recall show
January 3, 2004 | 12:00am
Most people dont really have much to look back on at 23. But Kyla isnt like most people. At 23, she has her hands and life quite full. Three major albums, loads of awards, a handful of collaborations with local and international biggies, a top-rating noontime show, and a title (R&B Princess) to boot. This is why it is only fitting for Kyla to take center stage for a birthday concert.
Billed as Kyla Recall, the show features the R&B Princess performing her hit songs, paying tribute to her musical influences, and looking back on her days of joining talent contests. Kyla will celebrate together with special guests SOP buddy Jaya, Luke Mejares, and The Manoeuvers.
Kyla Recall is but a fitting title for the concert. Back track to 1993, Kyla also known as Melanie was the Tanghalan ng Kampeon grand prize winner. Her choice of a song should have been a tale-tell sign. Jennifer Holidays Im Changing, became the signal for the 12-year-old Melanie to turn a new leaf. Bagging the Grand Prize in Tanghalan, opened new doors for the young singer.
She then joined Thats Entertainment to further her experience in show business. In 1997, Melanie once again joined the Metropop Young Singers Competition. And once again, she went home with the third prize. But more than the accolades she has received, it was a defeat that brought Melanie to her biggest win.
Armed with a Raymund Ryan composition, One More Try, Melanie signed up for the Metropop Song Festival in 2000. But the song failed to make it to the Magic 12. It did, however, catch EMIs A/R Manager, Francis Guevarras attention. He immediately signed her to a recording deal and renamed her Kyla. The rest, as they say is history.
Apart from her three albums, magazine covers, sold-out shows and a string of hits on the radio, Kyla is also seen weekly in the top rating Sunday noontime show SOP. Kyla Recall is not only Kylas 23rd birthday concert. More importantly, it is a celebration of her full life and a thank you show of sorts. Join her on Jan. 9, 8:30 p.m. at the Music Museum and witness why Kyla has a lot to look back at.
Kyla Recall, produced by IVAN Entertainment is presented by MTV Phils., Mossimo and its official radio station 105.1 Crossover in cooperation with American Creative Design Inc., Gatorade, Snapple, Juice-C, John Spring, Coffee House, Universal Robina Corp., 99.5 RT, Manila Bulletin and EMI Phils.
