Time Magazine listed it as one of the best play of 2001 and it has won a string of awards including the Drama Desk Awards for best music and lyrics.
Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, makes its debut in the Philippines with two of the most respected stalwarts of musical theater, Audie Gemora and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, in the starring roles.
Incidentally, these two theater celebrities are also celebrating their 25th year as theater professionals.
The Last Five Years, a clever and touching examination of a marriage in trouble is told from the viewpoint of both parties. But while the wife tells her story from end to beginning, the husband tells hisstory from beginning to end. This clever storytelling device is a challenge not only to actors but also to director Bart Guingona, who must clarify dual timeframes.
The creative team of The Last Five Years is also a cause for celebration as it assembles a veritable who’s who of designers and artistic talent in one production.
The show opens on August 29 at 8 p.m. at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City and will have subsequent performances on Aug. 30, 31, and Sept. 12, 13 and 14. There will also be performances at Cebu’s Ayala Center on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are available at Ticketworld at tel. 891-5610 and Actor’s Actors Inc. at 536-5844.
