‘Amor Powers’ on the warpath

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
Last Friday, Funfare put out a "blind item" about a showbiz couple who broke up under unpleasant circumstances. The guy was mentioned as doubtful that he’s the biological father of his and the TV-movie actress’ eight-year-old son, hinting that the real father could be the actress’ ex-boyfriend (brother of alternative singer "V" even if the boy does look like the doubting father... judge for yourself by the photo of the boy). It turned out that after the break-up, the father found the actress’ diary which, according to him, contained all of the actress’ secrets, most of them "shocking."

Last Saturday on ABS-CBN’s Showbiz Sabado (S2), Ronnie Quizon (Dolphy’s son and brother of, among other Quizons, Eric and Jeffrey) surfaced to tell his side of the story, clarifying some issues involving him and former live-in partner Eula Valdes, popularly known as Amor Powers (the character she played in the ABS-CBN soap Pangako Sa’yo). Actually, according to the Funfare source close to Ronnie, there were several other issues.

Provoked, Eula met half a dozen movie writers at Annabel’s Restaurant last Monday to defend herself. Armed with documents (a land title, medical certificate, photos, etc.), Eula said that she was surprised why Ronnie agreed to be interviewed on national television when she’d rather that they kept quiet about their separation.

"If he wants trouble, then I’ll give him that," said Eula (the granddaughter of Fernando Amorsolo). "I was at Camille Prats’ debut the same night Ronnie’s interview came out on S2 and I felt paranoid. I was asking myself the whole night, ‘These people must have seen that interview. What could they be thinking about me now?’"

You know how it is when showbiz couples break up. If they’re married, they haul each other to court to file an annulment case (usually granted these days). If they’re only living-in, you guessed it, they rush to the nearest showbiz talk shows and wash their dirty linen on national television with copious tears. That’s what happened to previous separated couples and that’s what’s happening now to Eula and Ronnie.

Here are the issues and Eula’s side:

1. She’s a lesbian. After his and Ronnie’s break-up, she moved to the house of her lesbian lover.

"I have nothing against lesbians because they’re nice people, nicer than most people. I have several lesbian friends but I don’t have a lesbian lover. Lalaki pa rin ang gusto ko."

2. She hurts herself black and blue and makes a "press release" that Ronnie is beating her up.

"I’ve been a battered (partner) in all the nine years that Ronnie and I lived together. Ask my mother (Gracia Amorsolo Valdes, 74) who has been living with us since l998. There were eight incidents when Ronnie beat me up in my mom’s presence. One time, Ronnie even hit my mom who was trying to stop him from beating. That was in February 2001. My mom fell and sustained contusion hematoma. Here’s the medical certificate issued by the Alabang Medical Center."

3. Their son could have been sired by another man, that’s why Eula refused to have a DNA test.

"Look at our son. He has my eyes, all right, but everything of him is Quizon. If, as he said, Ronnie love(s) our son so much, why does he have to hurt him this way? There’s actually no need for any DNA test. My son Miguel’s blood type is B-plus, same as Ronnie’s. My ex-boyfriend’s blood type is O-positive. These are all recorded in Miguel’s birth certificate."

4. Success has gone to her head. She wanted out of the relationship because she was having an affair with another man. She was spreading the word around ABS-CBN that, since she’s the one earning, she spends for everything and Ronnie is only her palamunin.

"Those accusations were invented by Ronnie’s camp. I never said that he’s palamunin. I decided to leave home, which I myself bought (showing certificate of title, although Ronnie’s defenders claim that Ronnie invested 50 percent of his own money coming from his share of the sale of the Quizon – mom Baby Smith, brothers Eric and Jeffrey, etc. – house in Blue Ridge) only on Dec. 31 last year because I had had enough of Ronnie’s violent attitude. I left Miguel and my mom in our Las Piñas (Rizal) home and I’m staying in my own pad. No, I’m not living-in with another man. My boyfriend (Richard Litonjua, an engineer based in Australia and a relative of Eula’s friend Sharmaine Suarez), is abroad. We started going steady only lately, after Ronnie and I broke up. Ronnie knows Richard because we move in the same circle. We would even attend the same parties together with our other friends."

5. She’s "eccentric" (the vernacular word used by the Funfare source was "may toyo"), given to dark moods. During Quizon family gatherings, she wouldn’t even mix with Ronnie’s relatives and would keep to herself in one corner.

"I’m naturally aloof, hindi ako ma-chika. Besides, the gatherings were few and far-between. Bihira kong makita ang relatives ni Ronnie so how could I be close to them? But Zsa Zsa (Padilla, Dolphy’s beloved) is okay with me. I saw Tito Dolphy at Camille’s debut and we greeted each other. I don’t think he was happy with Ronnie’s TV interview. I heard pa nga that Eric advised Ronnie against it pero itinuloy pa rin ni Ronnie. Had he kept quiet, di sana hindi nalaman ng publiko ang mga baho namin. He started it; I’m forced to defend and clear myself."

6. She has been entertaining text messages from Ramon Christopher, her boyfriend years ago during their Bagets days. Ramon himself has been reported to have finally separated from Lotlot de Leon (who, like Eula, is managed by Cornelia "Angge" Lee).

"I haven’t received any text message from Monching. Kilala ko si Lotlot; nababaitan ako sa kanya. When Monching and I broke up, I was thankful na kay Lotlot siya napunta. Mabait si Lotlot."

Asked why she and Ronnie never got married, Eula said, "We did think of getting married but it never happened. Mahal ako ng Diyos."

There you are, the bare facts, the dirt and the mud splashed in the media instead of being swept under the rug.

Now, who do you think will emerge the "winner" in this family feud?

Neither Eula nor Ronnie.

But I know who the biggest loser is – the un-couple’s son Miguel.
