Rufa Mae Quinto and those unsavory rumors about her

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -
If we were to believe the hype machine, Rufa Mae Quinto could very well be the "most in-demand" sexy singer-actress in showtown. And by "most in-demand" we mean "most desirable."

Because she is presently single, Rufa Mae has to parry all sorts of rumors linking her to just about everyone who wears pants, the latest of which – and one that is silly and preposterous – is Quezon City Rep. Chuck Mathay whom the sexy actress hasn’t even met. Rufa Mae shrugs it all off by saying that she has no time for romance as of now. "I don’t want to entertain suitors muna," Rufa Mae explains. "I don’t want to think about my lovelife. I just want to work."

She jokes that she has become a man-hater of sorts, but just as quickly asserts that she holds no bitterness in her heart. That she parted ways with hardcourt hero Rudy Hatfield on amicable terms. "We were together for two years and seven months," Rufa Mae reminisces. "We had good memories. And I could confidently say that it was the best relationship I’ve ever had so far."

Rufa Mae is not looking for love after her last heartbreak. "I don’t want to expect anything because I don’t want to get hurt," Rufa Mae confirms.

Still the hopeless romantic in her remains persistent. If ever she falls in love once again, she’d make certain that their priorities as a couple are in the right order. "For me, respect and trust are more important than love "Rufa Mae remarks. "Without respect and trust, love alone will not make a relationship work."

Truth to tell: Rufa Mae is not so keen on romance because she has so much work.

And what a career it is! Rufa Mae could very well claim the title: busiest and most industrious sexy singer-actress in all of showtown.

Read ’em and weep: She headlines four GMA-7 TV shows (the daily soap opera Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw; the Friday night gag show Bubble Gang; the Saturday night sitcom Idol Ko si Kap; and the Sunday noontime musical-variety show S.O.P.) as a result of which, she is seen seven days a week on the small screen.

For the big silver screen, she stars in A.B. Normal College with Ogie Alcasid, Andrew E., and Mikey Arroyo, which opens today in theaters. The comedy movie is directed by Al Tantay.

Rufa Mae, the official Softee tissue model, has also pitched for the promos of products like Coke and Smart Talk ‘n’ Text. She has also agreed to be the spokesperson for Boracay, under the Department of Tourism’s WOW Philippines program. "The DOT chose me daw because I’m a lot like Boracay," Rufa Mae jests. "Sexy but wholesome."

Rufa Mae is proud to be like Boracay in that sense. That despite her naughty R-rated image she was able to capture the GP market as well – winning fans, not only among the men, but also among moms, wives, girlfriends, even little kids.

Without a doubt, Rufa Mae is going places. Indeed, she has gone a long, long way from her struggling days as a That’s Entertainment mainstay, when her talent fee (P400) was barely enough to cover her makeup and costume expenses. But she looks back at her That’s days with fondness and gratitude.

Closer to home, Rufa Mae was also able to accomplish two long-cherished dreams recently. She was able to build her own house and establish two business ventures (with the help of her uncle) through sheer hard work. "Blood, sweat, and tears," Rufa Mae repeats, like mantra, how she is climbing the summit of showbiz success.

"I bought the house for my father," Rufa Mae turns sentimental. "I wanted him to see proof of my success, how far I’ve gone in showbiz. Unfortunately, he died before seeing our dream home."

Rufa Mae recently opened two businesses, Booba’s Secret Salon and Anik-Anik boutique, both in BF Parañaque, in the first week of December.

Ever dynamic and enterprising, she also has plans for venturing into the skincare and restaurant businesses. Rufa Mae explains that she is precisely working hard now, in preparation for the future. "I’m going full blast with my career now so when the time comes for me to slow down and settle down, I’ll be ready emotionally and financially," Rufa Mae elaborates. "When I get married, I’ll quit from showbiz siguro."

In the end , Rufa Mae years for a simple, non-showbiz life with her husband and future kids. "I can’t really say when I’ll get married," Rufa Mae attests. "It’s not really the age that’s crucial. What is more important is finding the right guy – a man who will respect, trust, and love you, no matter what."

In that order, she insists. Rufa Mae wants nothing less than utmost respect from her man.
Successful staging
Disney Channel staged a musical extravaganza titled Once Upon A Dream at the Octagon of Robinsons Galleria. It was a very successful event where the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab performed much-loved Disney tunes.

The event was organized by Disney Channel executives Manny Tonogbanua, Bing Milanes and special events manager Robbie David along with Robinsons Malls top honchos.
